Default Best Y-Pipe

Hello im looking to replace the stock Y-pipe in my 90 6 spd. I currently have borla mufflers but everything else is stock. Im planning on keeping my stock headers, and i hear is a worthy investment to get rid of the stock cats. Im looking for a high flow cat, not just a straight pipe. thanks

the magnaflow looks very expensive. You guys know any good websights for such products? I did find one by eastern but ive never heard of them. Anyone seen this part?

http://www.performancepeddler.com/de...CT_ID=EAS50180

This however looks more promising since I know catco is reputable. any thoughts?

I run the cheap mid america 2.5 inch... quality wasn't great, had to file the joint inside the extremely sloppy. However it get the job done

I went full catless to a single 3 inch and I very happy with the sound and performnce gain. An aftermarket single main cat should flow pretty good. just get the stockers out of there if you want some gains

I also bought and ran the MA "Y" pipe (no pre cats) for a few years.....no problems with the fitment for me. It worked fine. I pitched the part a few years back after I ran over a loose semi truck tire re-tread on the local interstate which bent / ripped most of the exaust off the car.....went with a true dual set up after that.

I guess I will clear up what I meant about the quality... fit ment was good but there was some huge chunks of metal left over from the joint on the inside. Like nothing I've eve seen before cra##y.

Do you like your true duals better?

YES! They seem to flow better than the "Y" to the single 3" pipe to back "Y" set up. + they are a mild grade stainless steel....you can still weld on them but they won't rust (except for where the welds are) My SS exaust system also came from MA.

Maybe I got lucky with the "Y" I bought..no problems with the install or the product quality they just don't hold up too well when smacked by a truck tire tread @ 80 mph.

If you dont mind, how much was the difference from stock to y, and from that to true duals?? would an 92+ exhaust fit my 90?

My stock pre cats on "Y" was on the car when I bought it....turned out they were already failing when I got the car in the '90s. I had a hard failure as I was driving across the "Blue Ridge" mountains the following summer. The car didn't seem to be down on power until the hard failure....then the car had no power at all so much so that I had a hard time getting over the mountain roads also it wouldn't go faster than 80 MPH in the straights and the engine temps were hovering @245F once I got back into FL. I actual drove the car back to Tampa and removed the stock "Y" then replaced it with the MA (no pre cat) "Y" and a Walker high flow cat. The "feels like" power difference over the OEM set up was as different as night and day. In good air the car ran very high 13's on the 1/4 mile at that time. Not too long after that I ran over the loose semi truck tread on the interstate which promptly removed / bent 70% of the exaust system. The next exaust set up was the "true duals" from MA....with Borla square tip ZR1 style mufflers....no cats this time. The completely "new" exaust set was flowing so much more freely I had to adjust the timing advance backward to keep it from popping so much on deceleration. No 1/4 mile runs have been done with the newest set up...the old girl is now pushing 250K on the odo....but still gets down the road with best of them. Judging the difference between the set ups and using my S.O.T.P. dyno I'm most impressed by the true dual set up.

I can make anything "fit" given enough time with a welder, grinder, saw and BF hammer.
