After 23 years another part has become unavailable from GM. I guess that was a pretty good run. I see a replacement/ rebuild of my heater control valve in my not too distant future after I saw a whisp of steam off the valve this morning while it was still cool. The vacuum stuff is working fine, its just started leaking a little bit especially when the heater is in the off position where it will build pressure against it.
Theres a guy on ebay selling rebuilt valves for $115. These valves are pretty simple I guess but where is he getting the rebuild parts? Is there another GM vehicle that uses the same small parts and he is scavenging them off readily available Citation or Impala heater control valves? .
Used ones arent much better than what I have and I have found one new for about $80 from an aftermarket supplier. The body of mine is kinda rough but it can probly be cleaned up if I can get the parts, I will try to rebuild it. I have a whole box of o rings in many different sizes from being a plumber. I have repacked leaky valves when necessary and other than being smaller than I am used to, the principles should be the same.
Anybody here rebuilt one and got pics??? Info on the small parts?? I can always hope, right? LOL.
One of the vendors on here recently said he was very near releasing a reproduction. Maybe he will see this and update. If its very soon, you could eliminate yours until then. Some guys just eliminate them anyway.
FANTASTIC!!!! I am glad you were part of that thread, 86! I knew that GM would use it elsewhere and altho the parts are still 25+ years old, the aftermarket is bigger on the more common vehicles. Even if I cant find the right one to rebuild mine, there are aftermarket ones that will work too for a lot less without the Vette tax. There was frost on the windows this morning but here in LA, its the dying gasps of winter. I will take care of it before it fails completely but I have some time if I just bypass it for now. Gonna bypass the TB too while I am at it.
Again, THANKS! And thanks to C4boy who revealed his knowledge for us C4 Brothers! Great job on the write up and pics. Exactly what I needed.
If all goes well, we should have these in stock within the next two weeks. They are an exact reproduction of the two styles that were used. I will keep you guys updated as soon as we have them here.
Kevin, thanks for your efforts in making the odd parts that keep our rides going. I am fully capable in rebuilding the valve with the parts described above but I will wait the couple of weeks to see your product and pricing. My time is valuable so if it is cost effective, I may buy one of the first run off ya. If not the plumber instincts take over and I will do the rebuild. Keep up the good work and I will look to Keen for this and other C4 needs!
