Hi all! All the sudden my stock '89 auto (96k) has been acting very strange... So far I've replaced fuel pump (great fp),ignition module and coil aside from a tune up. I started the car up this morning and it idled but say, every other time or three if I pushed the brake pedal down the car would cut out, stumble and try to die (random). My dash lights have been lightly flickering and the night before last I barely made it home because the car would die stopped with the brake pedal down (died seconds after coming to a stop in my driveway). The small screen that displays temps (bottom of center console) wigs out! flashing numbers and such, turning on and off by itself.
I've checked gobs of wire for bad connections and all vac hoses,I dont get it! A friend is saying bad/weak alternator (stock) and battery (old and has gone through a few set dead&re-charge cycles but still cranks the car to right life). I would greatly appreciate any assistance!
Is your brake pedal hard ??
Any leaks in hose or connections to booster ??
Since you could still have the factory Multec injectors, ohm them cold then hot.
Any stored codes ??
Just a few thoughts.
i had that exact same problem man. what i did was i checked my battery and the ground was loose and that fixed it but it started doing it again and it is turning out to be a weak alternator. mine also did it when i had the defrost on. when that was on and i was at a red light with my foot on the brake the voltage in the car would die and the whole car would start to wiggg out. but check your grounds and alternator to see how many extra amps are being used. i put in an optima red top battery and it is great now even tough then things cost close to $200 it is good. but any new battery over an old one is better. i just went with that one because of all my audio in it. but i would check the alternator also. i hope this helps. later
My brake pedal is kinda hard and stops the car pretty good. I checked around the brake booster and couldnt find any bad lines. The injectors are the multecs but I havent checked them out aside from eye'ballin (havent really had the time to install the bosch 3's I got from FIC,A+ service btw) but this is whats weird... I forgot to mention this little issue is kinda random, sometimes the car will run great one or two days then this happens, sometimes goes away soon sometimes not. And I went and got one of those little black box code gizmos ($30@schucks) and all it would flash is a code 12....
This really sucks,I need it to get me to and from work tonight and I got a date tomorrow night !
