My 1986 L-98 is starting poorly and throwing a Code 30 (Intermittent MAF Issue per my manual). Edited: It was a Code 33.....sorry!
Does this mean I need a new MAF or could this be a wiring issue or something simple like that?
Anyone experience a similar failure and what was it?
I removed the Plenum from both sides of the MAF. There was some leafy debrie on the intake side that had gotten past the Air filter somehow. I blew that out, but it didn't help any that I can see.
Need some advice here please......Thank You

Reason: Error- was Code 33 not 30
I'll try shorting the pins and reading the codes again....I don't have a reader......now I'm thinking it must have been a Code 33. Appreciate the help there Agent86!
I had the same thing once with a TPI Camaro. Check the injectors to see if they are working right. If there is no problem with the injectors then focus on the MAF.
Take a close look inside the MAF sensor and see if the platnum filament is still intact. If the filament is still intact check/clean the connector connections that plug into the MAF sensor. Replace the MAF relays (power and burn off) located beside the brake booster. Clear the stored ECM trouble codes and restart the car to see if your still having a hard start & or a trouble code problem. If you still having a problem pick up of spray MAF cleaner at your local autoparts store and clean the inside of the sensor as directed.
Replace the MAF sensor if the steps above show no improvement or if sensor's filament is broken/missing....it is always a good idea to replace the MAF burn off relay when installing a new MAF sensor.

I purchased and installed a new relay. So far, that seems to have fixed the issue. Starts and runs and no longer throwing codes.
WIll post again if it the issue comes back; a possibity since this has been an intermitent issue.
Based on similar past experience and the advice of C4 guru Gorden Killebrew, both MAF relays should be replaced at same time when one goes bad. I went through two or three relays a few years ago until I did ths. Fortunately they are cheap and easy to get to.
