The vats only disables the starter system and not the injectors also. I just pushed started the car today due to the vats, so I know.
Nope, you are wrong. If the VATS module does not see the correct resistance value from the ignition lock, it will not close the start enable relay and it will not send a signal to the ECM to pulse the injectors. If you can push start the engine, then it isn't VATS. It could be clutch safety switch, try unplugging it and jumping the socket. It could also be the start enable relay. If you hear the starter solenoid click , then most likely you have bad contacts in the starter that switch current to the starter motor. These contacts are replaceable in the starter.
Also, do not push start your car if you have 4+3 transmission because you will damage the OD!
Had a problem on my 85. Turned out to be the anti theft gadget under the dash was loose and had a bad connection. Cleaned that up, checked the injector fuses and it runs fine now.
