I will need a brake job soon and want to get an idea on options.
Please chime in if you have upgraded your brakes.
I have a 1994 LT1 Coupe.
If you can share details and costs that would be great.
Is it even worth upgraded the brakes on a seldom driven weekend cruiser?
All opinions appreciated.
I have the C5 upgrade on my 87. Im sure you have already seen links posted on this forum. It was a nice upgrade. To answer your question, I do not think an upgrade is worth it on a seldom driven daily driver. The stock brakes are fine.
Cryogenically treated rotors that will look good and last a LONG time. They deal with few different companies. I got the Royaly Rotors Drilled/Slotted and Zinc plated for rust protection.
94 LT1- 12" standard brakes
$563 shipped with discount.
15% off if you buy both axles so it comes in slightly higher than the crap they sell elsewhere.
let me know I have the promo codes and they are posted on the thread I made.
I did the J55 up grade (94) with the DRM spring. It is an easy install as it all just bolts right up. The increase in performance was greatly improved as my original brakes were poor (dangerous to me). Got a deal of around $500 for calipers, pads, rotors and brackets. Was able to use my same wheels. Downside is rotors are expensive.
C5 brakes are better from what I have read. You need special mounting brackets but the parts and rotors are less expensive.
my friend has the C5 front brake upgrade and it works really well. he says there is a lot more stopping power and the upgrade itself is inexpensive in comparison to like wilwood or baer... well worth it if that's what you want to do...

Bang for the buck, this is the way to go. Might have to space your sawblades out to clear calipers though. No big deal.
I've had the C5 upgrade on my 92 for about 3-4yrs now.
I like everything about it (lower cost of replacement parts better braking ect) except for the fact that the factory spare tire won't fit on the front now.
I haven't had much luck winning any ebay auctions for a GTO spare tire...
