In dozens of road trips over the years in various cars (including the C4) and on motorcycles the same part has NEVER failed twice with failures often being obscure (eg, cam position sensor). Moreover, not infrequently, the problem has arisen just as I pull into a gas station or motel for the night thus making it easier (but not necessarily easy) to do repairs.
I do carry a small tool kit in a small SealLine dry bag (like canoeists and hikers use) with the tools wrapped in a shop towel to prevent rattles. The dry bag prevents rust and is stowed in the front well on the passenger side next to the coolant overflow tank. There's still plenty of room for several 18oz. plastic bottles of water (I weighed carrying coolant instead but in the Texas climate it rarely gets cold enough to worry about freezing and an emergency stash of clean water serves another purpose), oil, power steering fluid, etc.
My tool kit includes a 3/8" ratchet with various 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sockets and adapters (3/8" to 1/4", etc), electrical tape, hex set, Torx set, screwdriver set, crowfoot sockets, mini-driver set, pocket knife, pliers, needle nose pliers, hose clamps and Crescent wrench. I also have a 18"x1/2" ratchet (breaker bar) tucked inside the sill carpet on the passenger side.
Extra brake fluid in case your clutch decides to leak out just enough to leave you stranded, or as mentioned on this forum before, a tube or straw to transfer it from the master cylinder in a pinch. AAA premium membership and a cell phone is better though.
I have a recently purchased '94 and have often wondered how the car does on road trips. Besides Cabin Fever, how comfortable are these seats after 6 hours of driving? Will I be able to walk normal within an hour of arrival?
Keep those suggestions coming... I am planning my first small trip a 3.5 to 4 hr trip to Nashville to see Def Leppard, Poison and Cheap trick. Then taking her to see her birthplace at Bowling Green, KY.

You shouldn't have any problems! AAA card/cell phone are a must!
The longest trip I've made so far was around 400 miles and it was no problem at all.
In fact, I'm probably going to make that same trip again next weekend!
