While I was there it made sense to change the stocker out. My '88 didn't have nylon teeth. The chain was stretched over 1/2" though.
The new dampener weighs less and works better then the stock one. Also the new timing set weighs less and works better then stock.
I changed out the stock reverse rotation type pump for a standard rotation model. It needed minor clearance grinding. The price was right on it without the Corvette tax. It needed a bushing for the shaft also.
Some progress has been made putting it back together. I put on ported heads with 1094 gaskets.
Porting on the intake and Super Ram still.

The timing chain is CLO-9-1145 and fits perfectly. I got a different chain that was $30 less and the bolt pattern for the cam was slightly off. It looked like the exact same chain though. So they charge $30 more for a slightly different bolt pattern that fits Corvettes. The stock thrust washer was not terribly worn so I reused it. I'd have liked to put in a needle bearing there but couldn't find one. I used an $11 puller from Fleet farm to remove the gear.
The cover is an aluminum Summit model and fit without any troubles. I did have to get a pointer for it and went with an adjustable model. I ordered the one to fit the same since as the dampener but oddly it contacted it and needed minor grinding on the pointer needle. SUM-G3202 cover came with gaskets and new bolts. I trimmed the bottom seal edge off so it could be installed without dropping the oil pan. That worked perfectly.
The dampener is a used Fluidampr that I got for a nice price. I picked up an $11 puller which worked well. I didn't need to mess with the flywheel and just put a pipe wrench on the tube/washer I used to install it so the engine didn't turn.
I only just went over the intake to clean it up a little so it's not done to well. I used a brass brush in a drill. Using the die grinder will make it shiny and smoother as it seems to take a little metal off. My car is more functional then pretty since it's a track car to me.

Don't you just LOVE "Corvette tax"?
(Seems to me I read that non-roller cams had a different bolt pattern...maybe that's what you got first?)
So, you didn't have to grind at all to get the 1145 to fit? Do you think the stock cover would have worked?
You wouldn't come back after a surprise thread rolling invite!
The pump is a Weiand 9208P that I picked up second hand. It fits SBC but not our Corvettes very well. It needed a bunch ground off the drivers side corner to fit the PS bracket. It needed a bushing for the shaft since it's 5/8. It's also .2 shorter and almost didn't fit that timing cover. It makes the belt ride .2 different on the pulley but it's fine so far. The pulley can be shimmed if needed. Also the water outlet is .250 larger then stock so the stock hose is not happy being forced on there. I need a new hose anyways, so will replace it before racing. But it's a good pump!
Yeah making good progress! It'd be running if I'd stop porting on the intake. Two heads:
The top hole for the PS bracket needed to be drilled out a 64th with the decked heads plus thin head gasket. The bolts just wouldn't line up. The other side header is on, just waiting on my porting!
