Dayum Rick, those Chevrolet covers looked awesome. If you drive fast enough the wipers are not necessary. Put those Chevrolet covers back on and keep the engine bay looking as bad azz as possible. You don't need no stinking wipers!

Good to know.

Rick, bummer, I believe the short ones will fit and I don't recall you having any crazy valve train components right. Bummer, but they are sweet covers, you have to at least get the short versions.

Awesome Rick Motor looks good !! Good luck with the wiring and all that jazz. Take your time with the wiring, the last thing you want is to be chasing electrical problems when you're ready to fire. Does the Miniram have a spot for a Map sensor or are you going to keep it maf?

Love it! Looks deadly! Are you planning to drag race it? What times and power #'s are you hoping for?

Seriously, it's not that much work for a welder. And once it's painted and stuck under the wiper motor, you can't even tell it was done.

I might be wrong, but I think you have a FAST or GEN 7 as well, and if so where did you mount the unit?
First, there is no need to take the dash out. The interconnect between the drivers compartment and the passenger area can be done just to the inside of the heater box. I mounted my FAST unit behind the "breadbox" along with my MSD trigger boxes, and the window switch on my '87. You will have to 're-position" a few items (like the vats and a couple of other small components), but no cutting of the factory wiring harness required.

I typically do not run a piggyback, but instead integrate the aftermarket ECM into the factory harness. The factory ECM will stay, as it will still power the factory guages.

If you need pics of my install, you might be able to persuade me to pull the "breadbox blockoff" and snap a few shots.

As for the valvecovers, I would "notch" / modify the Chevrolet valvecovers. I have a new set of those valvecovers as well (very nice valve covers). However, I try to go the "stealth approach" (other than that huge whiner on the L) for the engine. Mine uses factory painted valve covers. If one were to look closely, they would see the 3/8" spacer (painted black of course) under the factory covers to provide the necessary clearance for the shaft rockers on the AFR215CPs.

Aaron.

I sent your suggestion to John whom is assisting me with the whole project. Actually I am assisting him to be truthful.

I would really appreciate some pictures Aaron. If you could send them to my email address at rhueson@yahoo.com that would be helpful.

First thing... If you have a sequencal injection and firing with the new fast system...then the old Bank to Bank wiring from the original is useless...so. If you are going to take the time to install the new wiring for injection the you might as well rip out all the useless wiring for EGR sol. All relays for mass sensor and burnoff. for example. Don't go this far and have a mass of wiring sitting there cluttering up the place.

As for install...My Gen 7 computer is a little bigger than the fast...so I had to take the breadbox out and do a little carving of plastic and set up the interface wire right beside the fuse panel. If you have taken these things out before you will know it is alot easier when the dashpad is removed.(not the whole dash)
as for access into the engine compartment the two piece plastic panel is right there beside the outside evap box.

My computer is completely removed from my car and every gauge works except the milage meter...But who the **** cares for that anyway. All other systems can be run without the original ecm. As for the Vats..I bypassed that system long time ago...Its gonna get you stuck somewhere when the wiring brakes inside your ignition cyl.

It takes some time and knowlege but it will look alot cleaner. Trust me...this car ain't ever going back to stock. I thought the same way trying to save stuff but it gets in your way.

But thats just my opinion.

i am assuming the fast system you bought came with a standalone harness? my advise to you would be to think things out before cutting anything out of the car. take your time with it.
