Thank you all!!!
Last spring I got it in my head that while school was out, I should rebuild the LT-1 on my ’93 Vette. Given that I have never done this, nor had the proper tools, I may have been a bit crazy.
Anyway, I started off by reading this forum and every manual I could find for a few weeks. I then went to Sear’s and purchased the biggest set of tools they had. As it turns out, that was a good start, but only the beginning of the tool purchasing.
It took me eleven days to get the engine out of the Vette. It would never have happened without the forum. Most of the manuals simply state, "remove the engine." So do all of the other books and DVDs I purchased. Many of the members on the forum helped me through this. Disassembling the engine, with the exception of the Harmonic Balancer Hub, was a snap. From time-to-time I would post a picture of a part with a note that said something like, “Before I broke this, what was it?” The folks on the forum always had an answer. Once however, I was told to, "Put the wrench down, and step away from the car."

It took four weeks for the machine shop to bore and balance the engine. The crank and rods were way off. So much so, that the guy doing the balance called a friend at a Corvette shop to confirm that a stock engine might be this bad. But, he got it balanced and back to me. During the disassembly I took over 400 photos as I went along. I also put every part into a baggie and labeled it with what it was (or at least what I thought it was), and what photo I should reference when reassembling the engine. I still didn’t take enough photos. Once again, I turned to the forum. And once again you all came to my rescue.
So, after over 50 posts on this forum, 400 + photos, 94 days of working on the car, waiting for a part, or buying another tool, the engine is finished. I put 450 easy miles on it and then changed the oil. I’ve now put another 1400 expressway miles on it and it is humming along beautifully.
I can’t thank all of you enough. It never would have happened without your help and support. I'm glad I didn't put the wrench down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
