So First off I found a Dana 44, fully rebuilt with a new case and spiders and clutch packs, with a fresh set of Richmond 3:33's for 800 bucks(caliper to caliper). Then I advertised my old Dana 36(which was in great shape) and sold it to a hot rod builder for 800 bucks. Then he was so happy with the deal that he offered for free one of the services his company provides. Which just happens to be metal cleaning and dipping. He told me that as long as I bring him my suspension components fully disasembled he will dip them in some sort of aluminum cleaner, and he said they will look like new. Wow I am super pumped. I have new poly bushings and u-joints and ball joints sitting waiting to go in. I just figured there was gonna be alot more elbow greese and steel wool and brake clean involved. So I traded a D36 for a D44 straight across basicy and am getting it cleaned professionally for free.
what is the difference between dana 44 and dana 36, and who should move to dana 44 ?
The Dana 44 is alot beefier. Not indestructible but better. The rear cover/batwing has added blocks that press on your bearing caps to assist with less flex in the case. The gears are bigger/thicker aswell.
Yah a Dana 36 in this community would not get chewwed up fast, but in the hotrod community it would. They are looking for the modern day suspension, but not always looking to glue the power to the ground, and deffinitly not always looking for the big power(just a cruiser). I should have listed it higher for sure, but oh well, Ill take what I got.
