I have a set of used slp runners one side is good the other is craked and has a small piece missing. If anyone wants them let me know. The price is free!!!
powerpigz-51 - The intake looks good! pretty much exactly as i had in mind. got any pics of how you finished up the bottom bolt hole?
If i can ever get my car to run right again i plan on before and after dyno tests... that is if i dont get too pissed at the stupid fuel injection and put a carb on it!!!
Here are the semi-finished results of my stock runner siamese job using Aluma-weld rods. These are fully siamesed on a Edelbrock Hi Flo. I also ported the plenum and polished the top. This was quite the science project, and I have more hours into this than I can count. I bought the runners and plenum from Pwnage, so my originals are still on the car. I bought all the Moates stuff for datalogging and chip burning, so the intake will not go on until I figure the chip stuff out. It will probably go on with the stock heads, I may throw some 1.6 rockers on. Heads and a cam may not be in the budget this year. I have about 375 bucks into the whole intake.
I just realized I have the plenum on there backwards....imma tard, sorry
At least you did something useful with the runners! Very nice work man.
Sorry guys.....this is not on the car yet. I am collecting parts, so I can do it all in one shot. I am unemployed right now, and don't have a lot of extra money for parts. lets just say I am "thrifty". I did recently score a new Comp XE256 cam for 20 bucks on Craigslist. I plan on pulling my 624 heads and doing some porting and installing some stainless performance valves and losing the rotators. After I am done, I will only have about 1500 bucks invested in my whole engine. On Friday, I was scanning new postings on Craigs, and a set of Performer RPM heads with a 100 miles came up for 550 bucks. I am kicking myself for not jumping on them.... The other day there was a fresh 383 stroker crank for 100, and today there are some 30 over 383 Kieth black pistons (new) for 140 bucks. Should have got those, too. Anyways, there will be no dyno, only the unsolicited opinion of the guy who is doing all the work and his right foot.
Alrighty.......I know I am 25 years too late, and I am not the first to do this...... the Piggyram is installed and running. My oil sender was leaking and I had to tear down the TPI, so I thought I would install my homemade fully siamesed runners on my stock base to see if this was worth pursuing with other mods. I also ditched my 19 pound injectors for some 24 pound (GASP!) Multecs that I had laying around. The cars throttle response down low seems more like a normal car (read "less"), but the wall has been raised at least 500 rpm. I like it. With better heads, headers and cam, I see a lot of potential. I am running very fat, as my chip was set up for the 19 pounders and I have about 43 pounds of fuel pressure...so its time for a chip burn later this evening. I thought I would share the end result, as some people have shown interest in this. I now have my original runners off the car and am thinking about doing this again, I learned a lot on this set. Total cost was about 50 bucks. And the alumi-weld rods did the job. And believe it or not, the fit was excellent with no warpage. Pwnage....this is your old set up.

Awesome!
I like the valve covers too. Nice and simple. The whole black/silver look is pretty.
I read that your base is stock. Is it ported at all also? There is potential there if it has not been touched yet

I used a thickness that was roughly the same as the stock runner, maybe a little thinner, purchased at the local home improvement center. Heavy dutyness did not seem like a priority. Don't you have to cut open SLP's to fully siamese them? I did one "patch" at a time to cut down on warping. If I do this again i won't go flange to flange with the patches. All welding will be done on the tubes. It was a biatch to get the flanges hot enough to take the alumiweld. Just like trying to weld a thin piece to a thick one, without evaporating the thin stuff. I know you like this stuff, Queeze.
Id probably only go halfway down just enough to get to that middle turn probably wouldnt siamese the whole thing. Perhaps in the future at some point Ill give it a shot. Thanks

Thanks.....I wanted some nice polished valve covers, but I have more time than money. I have about 1200 bucks into this whole motor. I have a highly ported Eddy hi-flo, but I was lazy and was concerned with the sealing between runner and manifold, so without other mods, I decided to test the runners on the stock manifold. Now I wish I would have put it on! I will be making another (better) set of runners, maybe it will go on then with a cam and some heads. Then maybe I'll port the stock manifold and sell these runners with it as a set.
are you taking orders yet?
I've got a spare set that would look nice siamesed 3/4 of the tube...
FYI...
there was someone selling oval tubing that was the right size to cut off 2 runners and replace with this single oval tube. Never heard of anyone trying it,.
Lee, I have more hours into this than I can count. Maybe on my next set I will be able to cut that in half. I believe a partial siamesing would be harder than the full siamese on a stock set. Someone on Third gen made a beautiful set using mail ordered tubing (just larger, non siamesed), but it cost him almost 300 bucks in materials and lots of time. If I could get it down to about 8 hours, I MIGHT make some money. Man, that would be a great job!
No matter how you slice it porting/siamesing/hacking aftermarket runners,
Lots of time/little profit if any. Do it more for satisfaction more than anything, at least if you do it right. Shoot just tooling/bits can set you back, last bits I bought were $90 ea

You are very right....to bad satisfaction doesn't keep the lights on. I have always had caviar dreams on a salmon egg budget. Harbor Freight is my friend. Another reason I did it was because "it can't be done with alumiweld", and I really could not figure out why, so I gave it a shot. All it entailed was "advanced soldering" and some fab skills. Cutting them up without effin them up was the hardest part.
