Default Speed sensor problems? Maby?

Ok I have a BIG problem with my 92! About 3 weeks ago my break light on my dash came on I thought maby it was a switch for the e-brake so I checked that and it was ok so I didnt think nothing of it. Then about 2 days ago my speedo quit showing me how fast I was going ( reading 0 ) and the tranny felt like it was slipping in and out of gear ( starts doing it around 30 - 45 mph ). So now Im thanking its the speed sensor or maby somthing else. Has anyone ever had this issue? Are there any other sensors that could do this? Its the only means of transpertation other than my bike and its way to dam cold to ride this time of year so I need to fix it quick. Please help!!!

Radical weather exposure can make electronics/mechanical equipment act funky.

Check the car for stored trouble codes....could be more going on than you realize.

Potential tranny slip:
If this is an automatic - warming the engine/tranny up to temp then check the fluid level is always a good place to start.

VSS:
If you feel the speedo sensor (VSS) is at fault disconnect the electrical connector and remove it from the transmission then hook a volt meter up (use the lowest AC voltage setting) at the sensor's connections and spin the gear drive on the sensor if you get any voltage out of the sensor the sensor is most likely fine so look some where else for an issue.

If you have a AC frequency generator or access to one you can hook it up to where the speedo sensor (VSS) should connect and apply voltage back to the car which should trigger a false speedometer reading on the instrument cluster to help "divide an conquer" your speed reading issue. Most GM stealership service centers should have a 30 - 60HZ frequency generator on hand that they can test the speedo/cluster/circuits with.

Sounds like a speed sensor problem to me.Transmission is shifting funny because computer is not seeing mph/kph(movement).Check to see if an animal or debris damaged wiring or if theres any physical damage to area.I think a speed sensor is not too expensive.Keep us updated

The brake fluid may be low and activating the sensor. The master need to be real full at least up to the line. Add some fluid if it looks slightly low.
