Default Cold start problem

just bought a 1985 vette in Fl and drove it back to SC. Dealer said it had a bad cold start injector. He started it with ether. Car ran great all the way back to SC. Started at every stop for gas. Next day wont start at all. It appears after research these cold start injectors are obselete. Any good solution to this problem? Any way around it. Would like to drive the car. Thanks

Should start without the cold start valve, functioning.
Do you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds , when ignition first turned on ?

The only thing I can hear is a fan start running at front of engine when I turn on the switch. Where is the fuel pump in the gas tank?

Yes, the fuel pump is in the tank. We know it does work(you drove home), but it seems it may not, during cranking. There are 2 power sources to pump, the fuel pump relay (controlled by ECM)and an oil pressure switch (should close at 4 p.s.i.).
If the relay is not functioning and your oil pressure switch doesn't want to close until a higher pressure, it could lead to a no start situation.
Maybe that's why starter fluid, gets it up and running.

Your fan should not start with ignition on. The previous owner may have re-wired the circuit or there is a chance that there is a major sensor failure and the ECM has gone into "limp home" mode.

Are you able to work on this yourself ?

Am not real mechanically inclined and know very little about the C4. Have owned older vettes. Have a Haynes manual and looked at fuel pump replacement if it needs it and could probably do that OK. But sounds like you are telling me I need to look into the relay area maybe.

Yes, it may be a problem with relay. When sitting in the drivers seat, there is an electrical connector(ALDL), just above your right shin/knee.
If you apply 12 volts to terminal "G", the pump should run for as long as the power is present.
If you hear the pump, try and start the car.

Also, you should check to see if there any stored trouble codes in the ECM.
You do this by applying a jumper wire across terminals "A" and "B", on the ALDL connector. Turn on ignition and watch the SES light in center panel.

I checked my Haynes manual and could do something like the fuel pump replacement and general things like that. Wouldnt know the fuel pump relay it hit me in the head. Sounds like you are telling me this is where i need to start looking. May be replace parts till it works.
