Default DRM Brake Bias Spring.....

Anyone using one of these? If so does it work and if it does is it worth it?

DRM BrakeBias Spring
Good things often come in small packages. A lot of thought and successful racing experience went into the design of the DRM BrakeBias spring. Easily installed, this spring effectively puts more rear brake into your Corvette, giving you shorter stopping distances and more equalized front-to-rear brake pad wear. Also by having the rear pads do more work, front end nose-dive is reduced. This results in greater stability and vehicle control under extreme braking.

I've heard good things, and am planning to get one in the near future. Puts more braking force on the rear wheels, which are underused with the factory bias, so you get faster and more stable braking, especially on track.

Thanks, funny how these little aftermarket springs can do so much. I put a GM White spring in my oil pump when I did the cam swap. My oil pressure jumped up a lot. I think I'll get one of these and see what happens.

Definitely works. Really helped with front end dive when braking hard on a road course from triple digit speeds.

You won't notice a change when driving on the street except in panic stop situations. Like above, less nose dive and the car will feel a bit more stable.

Here are some pics...

Yep, it's the approved tool...at least when I did this 5 years ago

If you look really close in the pic, you can see the allen head portion of the socket passes thru the c-clip. In the upper right corner of the pic you can see my c-clip pliers with 90* tangs. Without the pliers, this job would have been a real PIA.

I added the bias spring when I installed my C5 front brake upgrade and it made a tremendous difference. I would say that this is a required part of a C5 brake upgrade on C4's.

Because the C5 front brakes are so much larger compared to the small 11.5" rotors on my 87, I initially got a lot of ABS activation even at medium braking. Even slowing down from 70 onto freeway off-ramps were enough to engage the ABS.

Once the spring was in, the early ABS activation went away and nosedive disappeared. The spring was installed just before a track day and I was really amazed at how level the car stayed when braking from 130 down to 25 for a 90 degree turn.

I just put mine in the new master cylinder. I'll report back at the end of Feb after my first track event.

I want one for roadracing. I wonder if if would make it more difficult to "heat the tires" at the dragstrip.

Is there a "bad side" to the bias spring? Mines a daily driver and for such a simple little spring it seems worth to change???

It's not a magic spring. if you care about what compound brake pads you use then you might want it. If you care about what kind of tires you use then you might want it. if you upgraded to 13" up front or c5 conversion etc then you definitely want it.

When I first installed the 13" front GS setup I hit the brakes at triple digit speeds and the nose dragged so hard the front spoiler got completely ripped off. After the spring the braking improved dramatically and the car is now flat under deccel.

it wouldnt make it more difficult to heat the tires but I would say it would kill more of your pads faster when doing brake stands.

Like GS007 said you wont feel a difference at street speeds but it made a huge improvement at the track. Less nose dive and more control under braking. When I would spend a day at the track only my front wheels would get covered in brake dust and the rear would have a thin hardly noticable coating. Now at the end of the day both front and rear are covered. I had to change to a softer rear track compound pad to help balance the car again.

Got it a month ago: not noticeable on the street; On the track and hi speed braking, more stable and helps with oversteering. It was a b**tch for me to install, but a very nice mod. For the price is relly worth it, as for the time an work...

Bias spring worked great at CMP. Nice straight level breaking, even from 100 ish to 45 ish for a real slow corner. Before I would nose dive heavily for that turn.
