Default Which opti ? wires ?

I'm planning to order a good opti + spark plug wires

I saw MSD and GM performance , I know MSD has a good repitition but GM performance opti is cheaper , is it worth to buy MSD ? or just get the GM ?

MSD : $500
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-83811/

GM performance : $360
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACF-1104032/

and which spark plug wires to get ? msd ? or other cheaper brand ?
will these fit the c4 ?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-32179/

I appreciate your other suggestions also ..

The GM vented optis will last a long time. The 92-93 non-vented, not so much.

I put on an MSD on my 92, no plans to ever sell the car.

Plug wires: Taylors at Summit are about $70. Their LT1 set fits perfectly, will outlast stock by 2x, come in different colors if that's a consideration.
I run the same wires (Spira-Pro) on the racecars, close to headers, and never had a problem. 10 years on one car, still look new, still within spec electrically.

Plugs: NGK TR55

Go with Delphi or Delco original, parts ladi has them, if you have no mods no reason to sink money into higher end parts. I just replaced all mine, water pump, plugs, wires, and complete opti.

I got a delco complete opti for 379, ac delco plugs 8.18 ea, ac delco wires, 74.99 and delco wp with stat for 249.99.

If you are replacing opti decide if you are replacing the whole thing or just cap and rotor there is a difference $$$.

Put an MSD opti on my 94 because the GM opti that I had installed a Chevy dealer only lasted 7,000 miles. Water pump that just started leaking took out the dealer installed opti. Thought that I had caught it in time however the GM opti will not tolerate any moistuer. The MSD is billet, has O ring seals and is vented. Compare the MSD & the GM side by side and you will see why the MSD costs more. The MSD is worth the extra. Replaced the original wires with the Packard Electric original equipment.

Yep, and they'll outlast stock wires by 2X.
They're also $63 compaired to Delco at $75.

I've been running the $3 NGKs for years, excellent plugs.

there is a note about the msd opti :

This distributor replaces the Optispark II vented, pin drive style OEM distributor only.

will it fit ?

or this one ?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8381/

This distributor replaces the Optispark I non-vented, spline drive style OEM distributor only. Includes components to convert to a vented distributor.

what is the difference between opti I and II ?

This drives me freekin' nuts. Some suppliers, like Summit, say the 8381 fits 92-94. Some say the 8381 spline drive fits 92-EARLY 94.
There's articles on the web from Corvette magazines that say 92 -early 94, but I have never seen a cutoff by serial number.

The MSD web page says 93-94! The 8381 works nice on my 92 though.

I've only searched this on the web for a short time.
Anybody have a 94 FSM they can check?

Mo, if noboby has the answer, you can call MSD tech www.msdignitions.com, if they even know.
Otherwise, you'll have to pull the unit to find out.

O.E.M. AC/Delco/Delphi Opti.

For wires, I like the Belden Premium Super Blue 7 mm Ignition Wires from NAPA.

Guys you have to remember that GM used the GEN II LTX engine w/Opti in a host of other cars starting in 93 (thru 97).

Y body Corvettes 92-94 use spline drive Opti I.

F Body 93-94 use spline drive Opti I.

B Bodies starting in 94 switched to the pin drive Opti II.

Y body Corvettes didn't change to pin drive Opti II until 1995 (thru 96).

F body changed to pin drive Opti II in 1995 (thru 97).

GM switched the Impala and Caprice (B Body) a year early.... This is why the books arew all screwed up when you look up Opti Spark interchange.

8 mm Taylors fit fine. 8.5's don't.

The hard part is not to break the stock looms when ramoving the old wires. Ther get very brittle with age & heat.

Cool looms to dress up engine bay if you need them
