I took the front lifters out when I was doing the grinding thing. I wadded up shop towels and stuffed in the lifter holes. I didn't want those shavings going into the lifters themselves. So yes, I had the spider off.

This car has whipped my butt today.........

Ever since I had to remove the intake again it's been down hill or maybe I'm just tired. Been at it since 4:30 am so I'm probably tired. Anyway, all that is left is plugs, wire it back up, headers, belt & alternator, AC compressor, change the oil, fire it up and adjust he valves, Take the alternator back off. Install valve covers. Put the front wheels back on a drive it a little. Bring it back and change the oil again and then crash.

Supposed to be 94 tomorrow so I don't know......

Here's a few more pics.

I use the Right Stuff on the china walls. Works like a top. Never have had a leak there.

I also like to put a little Permatex #2 around the ports. Most of this will be wiped off to just a thin layer.

I had to take a little off to get the intake between the heads. There is a lip on the heads it wouldn't quite clear. This is the only issue I had with the Edelbrock. No thread problems what so ever. Guess they straightened up their act some.

back of the intake

Got everything I could on it before installing it.

Here's where I stopped today

FWIW, it's not the Edelbrock intake that's too big for the AFR heads, it's the beefy AFR head castings. I had to grind my stock LT4 intake to fit on my AFRs as well. Looking good!

That's good to know. I'd heard so many negative things about it I just assumed it was the intake. Thanks for info Jim and the compliment!

Should have pretended it is an LT4 and ditched the EGR. I see you already ditched the secondary air.

Probably should have. Inspection is going to be interesting....no sniffer here but a visual. Just depends on where I take it and who I see.

Default Had to take a break........

Getting there. Headers are no (not hooked up). plugs in, AC, Alternator hooked up. Bout ready to finish it up. Still have tb and wiring, belt, adjust valves and then valve covers, just little stuff to do.

BTW, if you ever do this don't forget to install the analog temp sensor on the right side head or the matching plug on the other head. It makes a real big mess when the anti freeze gets that high when refilling. I was freaking out!!!!!! I thought the head gasket was leaking.

I decided to use AC 5 plugs. Don't forget the Anti Seize. Wouldn't want to ruin the threads in the head when you take them out next time.Remember, these heads rquire non tapered spark plugs. IOW use the old style with the washer on them.

Tip....fill up the block from the thermostat housing. You won't have any air pockets this way. Also, when you drain the system to start with use a shop vac that blows out and you can force more coolant out of the block.

The valve covers have issues.......

I was hoping they wouldn't but they do. Of course the right side just fell on. I drilled a 7/8 hole for the vent tube. Drivers side is a different story. I had to grind a little here a little there. Got it on but as mentioned I have alternator support problems. I can probably make the back bracket work but the alternator is hitting the cover and won't go down far enough for that top hole to line up. After seeing these on the car I could never be satisfied with the stock covers again. I'll make a bracket to fix that top bolt and get a longer belt.
