Take a look at this place. http://www.aceelectric.com

Since yours is a 1985 model, you should be able to get a complete rebuild kit pretty easily.

SlowJoe; I had similar problems with my 91 about a year ago. One parts store says it's a bad battery the next says the alt is bad. Mind you these guys are checking the parts off the car and still couldn't seem to get it right. I checked this and then checked that and finally ended up buying a new Delco battery. That still didn't fix the problem. It may have needed a battery because (in my opinion) the bad alt took it out but in the end it was a bad alt that was causing me problems. It sounds like you've got a similar problem and I think your running off the battery and will eventually find the car won't start. That 8.5 volts is I believe what's left or your current battery condition. I researched as best I could and ordered a rebuilt, with an "Iceberg" kit from a source I found through this forum. It came in 2 or 3 days for $108 I think and no core charge. Nice folks to deal with and so far everything's been just fine. The one thing I noticed was that there is a smaller pulley on the nose of the new alt as compared to my old one. I could change them but so far haven't. The URL of the place I bought it, is below....Frank
