Default Bose Speaker Relay?

None of my speakers in my Bose system are working. The antenna goes all the way up, but no sound. They were working great the last time I had the car out. The wiring diagram points to the Bose Speaker Relay as the probable culprit. Thoughts/suggestions before I buy another relay? Thanks in advance for any help.

Bang the dash near the bottom left corner of crash pad, might get you going till you get a new relay.

Its only about $12. Finding it under the dash is the hard part. Its bolted in place up by the computer. Once I located it, I reached up, unplugged it and left the old one in place. Plugged in the new one and just stuffed it up in there.

This is a 94, I beleive the relay is in the rear behind the pass seat.

The speaker amplifiers need 12 volts to operate and sounds like you might have lost it. It comes from the Bose relay (feeds all amps) which hangs on the wire harness near the receiver/ preamp. The voltage comes from fuse 37 so check that first. The relay is controlled by radio head and the receiver. The radio head sends the signal to the receiver to close a switch and then voltage from fuse 4 goes to the Bose relay and turns it on (closes it).

Lol, I should have checked what year it was, or better yet, he told us.

Many thanks for the input. I will check fuse 37 and replace the relay if fuse 37 is OK.

Here is a schematic for some help.

Don’t be buying a relay yet or on a guess, make a few voltage measurements first.

Turn radio on!
First see if there is 12 volts on pin 4 of the relay. If not, then check pin 1 for 12 volts, if it's there then check to see if relay is energized. Do this by checking pin 5 for 12 volts. If no voltage then you need to back up to the receiver, radio head and voltage feed. If you have voltage there (pin 5) and there is no voltage at pin 4 when there is voltage at pin1, then the relay could be bad.

Make sure pin 2 is at ground.

You get the idea and also check the connector connections and pins for bad contacts.

I checked fuses #5 and #37, then pulled the relay out and tapped it a couple of times. Tried the radio and the speakers are working once again. I hate intermittent problems. I will probably go ahead an order a new speaker relay, just in case. I don't quite understand the necessity for this relay in the first place as there is also another relay in this circuit in the preamp. The more relays.......the more problems. Let's over complicate things, why don't we? If there is one thing that I have learned in life it's to use the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep Things Simple Stupid).
