I dont think it should bog of the line unless theres something wrong with the tune.
If you press on the gas hard from a stop on a well tuned L98 the tires should chirp hard or leave black marks, you dont need no brake stand.
I have 86 with iron heads with highway gears and a chip, cut air lid, k&n filter, screens cut on MAS, muffler Eliminators, air foil (dont think it does much tho) and thats it, so its basicly stock.
I dont like burnouts cause to me it doesnt prove nothing and waste my tires.
You can do a burnout with a chevette if you brake stank it on a slippery surfice
Id check the fuel filter and fuel preasure, timming, air filter, spark plug gaps, throttle cable (for slack) have someone press the gas peddle down (while parked) and you watch the cable and see if its operating right,, is WOT really WOT.
You will be supprised what a well tuned car can do stock.
Ive said it before but I have a video with stock C4's with l98's running 12's.

Define stock because these were mid 14 cars stock.

There is no way a stock auto l98 with 2.6 rear gears will do 12's , you can run the figures thru any ET calculator and you wont even be near

If my car (88 stock L98) would do 12's, I'd be taking my friend's lunch with his 2010 Vette!

Some mentioned cut the screen on the maf is this worth doing? I've removed screens and other air directing parts on other cars intakes to free up the flow makes a difference on some. Does the l98 benefit from this?

Wouldnt recommed it, no real gain.
It protects the filaments behind it, if those get anything touching them odds are youll need a new MAF and it may do screwy things.

I put in a 3.55 Ratio and my stock 86 is a different car , best bang for the buck upgrade. Tyres bust loose in 1st, 2nd and sometimes into 3rd. I now don't get embarrased at the stoplights. You actually will get better accel off the line if you can spin the tyres a bit but get grip as the motor gets into a sweet powerband. if you dont want to change the rear , you can try a higher stall torque convertor..like a 2500 street stall...
If you want good Mileage then get another type of car...
In my opinion, any tire spin at all with an auto is bad for et's.... in all of my racing, even the slightest tire slippage damaged my 60 ft and hence et. You don't want to get to your rpm through tire slippage, but through the converter/gear combination.

I agree on the 2.59 gear in an auto.... must have been an emission thing.

Vic89 ran 12's with a stock engine.... albeit he wasn't stock with the gear/converter/exhaust, etc.... have another friend in a 90 that had 1.6 rockers, magnaflows, stock cats and a 2500 rpm converter with 3.07 gears than ran 13.1

In my experience, a loose converter with some sticky tires is the best bang for buck thing you can do if you're et hunting.
