Default Vortec engine block replacing a L98 engine??

Anyone know for sure if a vortec 350 truck block from a 99 GM truck would be a direct bolt in to replace a L98 engine block in a 86 C4? Got a customer wanting a 383 build and I have a Vortec 350 truck block to build with.

Cool, did you use the original Vortec timing cover as well? If so how did you plug the Vortec crank sensor hole?

The last one I built (using a 96 Vortec block) we re-used the timing cover and oil pan off the L98 that came out of the car. This was in a 91 6spd.

The only real difference is there is no dowels in the block for the timing cover. The dowels are cast into the plastic timing cover. By the book, you aren't suppose to reuse the plastic timing covers, your suppose to replace them. But if it's in good shape, you could probably get away with reusung it. And you can also get the timing cover dowels, tap them in the block, and use any SBC timing cover on it after that.

I used a new plastic timing cover without a hole from Scoggin Dickey. if you use the vortec harmonic damper you have to leave the reluctor ring in for a spacer. With aftermarket damper take it out.
