Default Engine cooling vs. heater

Trying to add shut off valve to heater hose going into core. Will this mess up engine cooling? Anybody done this?

It is done all the time and will not mess anythig up. Engine cooling will not be affected as long as it is working normally.

Thanks! I guess that it's just a small diverter hose to the heater, and most of the coolant goes into the engine then back to the radiator over and over again, right?

The OEM heater control valve shuts off the coolant flow so adding a manual valve wont affect anything. Ive done it several times.

Thanks
Home depot parts are under the hood now. Temp gauge looks normal. No leaks so far. Hot air not blowing anymore. Fingers crossed. Need to take a longer drive to really test, then I can forget about it.
Of course, it's been 95degrees+ and muggy here for 3 weeks, and today it finally cooled off to 85. Not like Jax, though.

Sounds like you have a problem with the blend door. Earlier years had a vacuum controlled valve, but I think 89 was the first year without.

Thanks
I think you're right. When I get the AC fixed, I'll take the inline valve out, and get the system back in order, including the blend door. Meanwhile, hope I'm good to go.
