Just curious Rick . The c6z06 has been out for several years. We all know it has 427 ci. What are your thoughts on why it has a 260cc port volume?? That's a whopping 65 ccs more than yours.
GM must have issues.. I think they need to read up on forums or ask engine builders/head companies to learn about how much volume they need to use in their heads?

Dont get so hung up on numbers/dyno sheets and cha$ing 5-10-20.
Time to get the ZF in there so you can track it.
If it went fast but only made 401rwhp its still good right!

But to me I look at the LS stuff as a updated pontiac motor. Lot of similarities. The biggest is they use same size block for all diff cube motors.
Makes you wonder Y old "big blocks 396 427 454s" had large port volumes. Cuz they need it.
most of the BBC AFR stuff is 265-385
I'm running 235s on my 4?? inch motor and wish I had the new 245s.
bigger heads and fuel inj are a perfect match!

LSX has a taller deck height gives it a little longer port adding port volume to it. And it's shape and valve angles are obviously totally different from ours.
And BBC's, part of the reason their port volumes are so big is the long port length.

I didn't mean anything towards ricks builder or head guy I was just stirring the pot a little.
What's got me interested is Rick is now searching for more power with exhaust and eliminators and other means and I feel like saying isn't this EXACTLY the motor he asked for? Eliminators will make the car louder and drone etc I am agreeing with others here to just make sure the tune is spot on and enjoy it!

LSX deck height 9.25 stock, tall decks avalible
SBC valve angle 23deg stock, 18 15 14 10 even 4degs
LSX valve angle 15deg stock, performance LS is 12ish and better n aftrmarket
If you want to buy same valve angle heads as a LSX 4 your SBC you can. (Pontiac used 14deg valves in 1955-81)
The LS went back to a more standard port (likeSBC) because its makes more power and has more volume.
By port length Im guessing you mean cyl volume/deck height due 2 deck height.
It also has to do w the stroke of the crank(sounds dirty huh?)
short stroke means piston travel is reduced (less volume) compared to long stroke cranks.
I guess my point it a engine is a air pump, less restriction = more power no matter what the platform.

And what the heck is with the apples and oranges references in this thread? Someone needs to up their sucrose intake.

This thing puts out 470rwtq and makes torque everywhere!!
After speaking to 85Vet, DDSLT5 (both with bigger cube motors) it is clear that my exhaust is a restriction, and I have to think it over whether I spend the big bucks on the 1 7/8 stepped headers, or so I just an x-pipe to replace that B&B reasonator, or eventually do both.
I could leave the car as it sits or spend some $$$ and gain imo another 15-25 rwhp.
Either way its a blast to drive, and it will even be quicker come spring with the 3.45's. What amazes me is how quick it is with 3.07's which is more or less a highway gear for the D44.
But heh, I went threw with the build, spent the money, and now I am driving it.
Changing some of the exhaust really isnt the end of the world.
