I have decided to stay 350 cid. Wear on block (all 8 cylinders) is between 3 - 5/100 mm (not inch) and block is in quite good condition. Will hone cylinder to new bore 4.02" and install a brand new crankshaft with 3.48" stroke. Also new pistons will be installed.

Need to gear down for more off the corner torque although.

Out of the corner & RPM's are up.

Long stroke SBC need more time to get to Peak HP with heavier rotating assembly.

Shorter stroke engine is up front once again.
they do make lightweight crankshafts....

another 30ci doesn't help your overall hp much.... other than another 9% or so...

the added bonus of a stroker is from the added torque in the length of the arm around the center line of the crankshaft.

*shrugs*

I prefer a lower revving 383 with some torque then worrying about a 350 at 6000-7000rpm, seems like alot of stuff can go wrong north of 5000rpm in any engine, I don't care what you build it for but i've noticed stuff seems to blow up the higher you revv it.... just saying.

enjoy your 350.

I know the new bore itself does not give me any more. I`m honing because I`m installing new pistons and there are some minor stripes on cylinderwalls. The trcikflow kit (new heads and cam) should give me about 430 HP on stock 350 engine.. The reason for not going 383 is there are to many things which might go wrong - clearance is one of them.. I´m building the engine myself, and I dont have experience required to build a 383 engine. There are quality workshops building engines locally - but one day work at one of them is about 1200-1400 USD. Building a good 383 by workshop will set me back close to 10,000 USD labor only..A stock 350 is safer for me to build and new heads and cam will give me more power.. The main reason for my original question is because I have to replace stock crank and price for a stroker crank is equal to new stock 3.48" crank.. Was it possible to get a 383 stroker engine out of my block for same price as stock 350?.. And the answer to that question is no (in my opinion)..

Why not reuse your stock crankshaft?

Would it be more cost effective to have a short block built by a reputable shop in the USA and shipped to you?

Cost less buying a new one..There are some minor scratches on bearing surfaces which must be machined.

I have been down that road to.. Looked at Golen engines. Shipping an engine form US to Europe cost some money. Even if buying engine from reputable shop it might brake - then what? Could buy an engine an strip it down to check.

i would reccomend a builder build one and ship it unless you are saving a ton doing it yourself. my builder has about 40 Lt1/4s under his belt and none have let go. This includes a few over 1000rwhp ( think2 are in europe) and he has int'l shipping experience. pm me for info if you like.
