Default Hypertech Power Tuning Module

Hello all,

Does anyone have experience with a Hypertech Power tuning Module,
the type that plugs into the stock ecm then the ecm plugs into the module?

Is this worth the $250 plus for the unit, and does anyone have one installed with their 1993-94 ecm? and what kind of results have been noted.

I am interested, but I am hoping this is not a negative that could hurt my electronics, and ultimately the power train in general.
in other words is this just a pig in a bow tie, or an effective unit to slightly increase my stock performance, without doing major mods.

Thanks for the advice, Derek

get a real tune with your car on a dyno... don't waste your money
if your stock.. get some upgrades then tune on a dyno
92 - 93 is a Prom like 86 - 92

I used to run a Mustang chassis dyno and on a couple of occasions I had the opportunity to do back to back pulls with and without these units. No discernable difference! I then would unstrap, test drive for 20-30 miles, strap back down and retest. Each time negligible gain to no gain. However, each time this was on a Mopar product, but I don't believe it will be any more effective on a GM product. I don't believe, based on my first hand experience, that they are worth anything!

Jack.

It will not tune you engine. It will change fan turn on points, I think shift point and something else.

It is also deadicated to only one car per VIN # (VIN locked) at one time.

Hi, a quick ?, If I were to purchase a used programmer and I hook it up and it is VIN locked will it hurt my electronics just because I hooked it up and unpluged it?

Thanks...Peter

93 and 94 uses different ECM's. So you may want to check the specs before the purchase. Every Hypertech that I have seen for the 94 actually reprograms the PCM.

STL94LT1, please bear with me,I have a 94, are you saying it can reprogram my PCM if it is VIN locked to another vehicle just by hooking it up to my 94 to see if it is VIN locked or not?

Thanks...Peter

If it is VIN locked to another vehicle then no it won't work on your car, and yes you can hook it up to your vehicle without damage. Should just display that is is locked.
