Default coolant flow - high temp ?

l98 - 350 new afr 180 heads - new water pump -

so far since put back together getting temps upwards to 230- used to run at 180

SO OK I TOOK MY HOSE SPRAYED WATER INTO THE BLOCK , THE HOLES WHERE THE WATER PUMP GOES AND WATER COMES OUT OF BOTH SIDES - NOW MY QUESTION IS WHEN I SPRAYED WATER INTO THE HOLE ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WHERE THE THERMOSTATE WOULD GO - NO WATER COMES OUT THE HOLES WHERE THE WATER PUMP GOES - SHOULD THERE BE WATER THAT COMES OUT THE HOLES IN THE BLOCK WHERE THE WATER PUMP GOES IF YOU SPRAY WATER INTO THE THERMOSTATE HOLE ?

In an L98, water flows from the water pump into the front of the engine block, to the back of the engine block, up thru the back of the cyl heads to the front of the cyl heads, where it goes out the intake manifolds thermostat housing.

If you force water in the thermostat housing it should eventually fill up the heads, block and then run out the water pump holes.

Are you sure the new water pump is good.

IF you intake gaskets are like these:

Make sure the blocked off water port is at the back of the heads.
