Well.. I spent a bit more time looking at this new unit I bought.. Should i have movement in my throttle shaft, it moves side to side about .050".. I don't think thats a good thing, considering those butterflies need to move almost perfect.

I took a video of it moving about .050" watch the hook that moves the TPS.

I can't send my BBK back. I bought in January while I was gathering all my parts. Send me message and I can give you the shop that did mine. I am very happy with the work.

good luck
My problem is that I live in Canada.. Shipping back and forth to the USA is ridiculous. I had actually planned on rebuilding my stock unit myself, but my shaft was bent, and it would have been a lot of work. The difference between me getting rebuilt, and getting a new one was about $100. Wasn't worth my time with factoring in the new gasket set and whatnot.

I ran this throttle body figuring it might straighten it self about, but this is 200 miles later, and having to constantly tap the gas pedal is getting to be a royal pain in the butt. Its not even fun to drive like this.

I also went thru all the steps (Vacuum, IAC) etc. It just doesn't make sense, I am going to wait to see what BBK has to say. I have uploaded a video of me moving the throttle shaft like crazy.. I honestly just want my money back for this thing, and go and buy a holley.

I think its embarrasing for BBK to let this stuff go out the door. And I refuse to tweak something that is new and out of the box that I paid full price for.

I am hoping they are going to expedite me another unit, and have me send it back when I get the new one. I would hate to have to wait another month to get my car on the road again.

I know what you mean, I was told my name would be put on a special list and I would be among the first to know when it was available.

WTF! That can't be right. I'll check mine tomorrow but I doubt very much if I will find that kind of movement.

Just tried contacting customer service.. This is going to be fun.. Looks like i'm gonna have to send them back the unit, and WAIT.

Arghh.. I wish i would have googled BBK a little better before purchasing this piece of junk..

When you call BBK customer service all you get is dead end voicemails.. even when you press 0 for an operator..

I think this is going to be an expensive lesson here.. I don't really have the time or patience to deal with this and it says on the website you gotta pay ground shipping back to them.

Not like I can afford another $400, but i'm in Canada, and we only get a few good months to enjoy our vettes..

I've been busy with company so far so I haven't made it out to check my tb but I'm positive it doesn't move like that new one. Might be time to get a lawyer on your side. I will get back to you on the movement of mine in a little while.

I got a chance to sneak into the garage, my tb has nowhere near the slop your new one has. Maybe .010 side to side and my tb is at least 5-6 years old.

Thanks for checking. I am thinking about just returning it now. Maybe i'll just do what the rest of the smart people did and buy a rebuild... This china stuff is crap. I highly doubt that BBK actually makes this stuff in the states..

Insist on a full refund or they will hit you with a restocking fee. It isn't your fault they sell junk. Good luck.

Heh,

Here is the reply I got from BBK. I will try.. but what does anyone think??

Hi Tony,

Sounds like you might be having some idling issues. I've had luck with this procedure with other customers:

disconnect the positive and negative battery terminals for about an hour and a half. Let the car idle with the Max A/Ac on for 15-20 mins and then drive the car around for at least a week to let the computer system relearn the idle.

If this doesn't clear up the issue please contact me back and we can go from there.

A week or two eh? Sounds like they wanna get me past the 30 day money guarantee. lol

your ECM does not take 2 weeks to relearn and what does that have to do with too much play.

I gotta admit.. thats some stellar advice.. 'DRIVE IT AROUND FOR A WEEK OR TWO'.

Its a STICKING THROTTLE... I doubt that its even legal to drive like that.

Didn't Toyota just get into a lot of trouble over almost the same thing??

I have a BBK that's less than 2 years old(previous version), minute amount of play at idle position. Once I reach about half throttle, the play begins to grow, and when I reach full throttle, my play is equal to yours.
It does not stick or seem to cause me any issues.
Wish I had a stock unit to compare side play.

Been there.....Done that!!! I know exactly how you feel. You will probably go back and forth with them for about two weeks. At the end you car still won't idle right. That's why I just gave up and got a rebuilt. Today it was 92 F here. I had the A/C on and the car idled all day at 600rpm in gear. I feel your pain...I would return it before its too late. Its better to just to loose shipping. You could end like me with a very expensive ashtray.....and I don't smoke.......

Good Luck

Is there any side play in your rebuilt, at idle, half and full throttle ?

No....that was the first thing I checked when I got it. I sat there at my work bench playing with the rebuilt for about 2 hours. Just checking it in all positions. The only small problem I had was the TPS screw holes were a little messed up. I tapped them with no problems. The car does run 100% better, even better than the BBK. I am new to the TPI. So, I really don't have any explanations just my experiences.

Hmmm, I have an old tb suitable for rebuild. You guys have me thinking about ditching my BBK even though it doesn't give me any trouble, BUT, if I'm not getting all the power my engine is putting out,,,,,,,,,, decisions, decisions. What say you Dan?

Well.. I got some info from David @ BBK today. They are admitting they have a manufacturing defect with these TPI units. He sent me some pictures of a mod he wants me to try. My stock unit doesn't have this 1/8" hole drilled thru, but maybe helps the vacuum lock when upgrading to 52mm. I am hoping this mod works, and let him know that the unit will be going back to after the season because of the play in the throttle shaft.

I was also told that these units are the first gen BBK only units. The older units were Edelbrock housings.

He also told me that they have been getting a ton of calls about.. PM me if you're interested in David's extension number.

Tony

I tried my hand with a BBK TB and ended up sending the junk back. I ended up with a Holley TB and have had zero issue with it.
