patience for test-fail , and money (lots) , i started here around 2007.
It's 2012 and still stubborn breaking parts and trying to upgrade ! lol !
It's been 5 long years but i love each and every experience that my 87
has brought to me, plus i have met many good friends here.
Tell us more , how long you have your 87 ? What you like most , drag racing
or autocross, this looks like an interview but i like this thread and i would love
to see your 87 kicking and haulin serious azz !

ps : i have never seen a c5 rear on a c4.- Not saying it can't be done
i have never seen it. solid is the way to go with your desired power.
i've just upgraded from D36 to D44 and i want to stay there.
My name is Jordan, I feel I am ready. I have had my 87 since early February this year. I love drag racing cause the concept of a mod each time to go a little faster (a lot like a game). But I went through a little mountain area near home and had lots of fun going pretty fast through the turns and the g force and acceleration out of turns. A little sketchy and scary, would be more fun on a race track for sure.

I already have a Corvette (my dream car) so it can't get much worse than making it the true performance car. Sure I could buy a c5 or c6 and upgrade but it wouldn't be as fun to me to wrench and be proud of what I built and have been through with this car.

Thanks for the luck!

Taken the approach to ignore all the trash talk and hype at the track and focus on running running 11.3-11.5 1/4 mile and 7.3-7.5 1/8 mile. Trying to knock off another .2-.3 to get in the 10's or 6's seems to push the IRS over the limit for a C4 IMHO
You seem to have a lot of experience with the IRS and I respect that, I look forward to help from you and the lot of the guys on this forum!

I still think it is possible to do a C5 or C6 rear end in a C4. Just a little complicated, street shop inc did a c5 irs in a c3. And here is a picture of the set up in a C3 I'm sure

Anything is possible with enough $$$ thrown at it
but anybody needing or prepared to back half a C4 is probably going to go solid anyway

i wonder if Jordan have a timeframe for this
I have a very good friend that started a very nice and cool
86 AFR195/SR/ZF6/Supercharged project, it's been 5 years.
Still there with all the brand new parts waiting.

Again , i don't want to discourage Jordan, i want to throw a cup
of reality on a very good idea that might turn into what i've seen
not only on that 86, on two or three cars more.

I don't have a certain time frame, but I would like to do the rear end of the car first before anything else. I won't quit on this project because it's based on being the closest and most personal vehicle to me specifically.

My mod list
-backhalf/IRS
-rebuilt t56
-built stroker LS1
-procharger D1(SC?)
-TSW Wheels
-Race brake upgrade (recommendations?)
-coilover upgrade

Good to know , you have plenty plenty of time.
As an advice i'll tell you beforehand , enjoy your 87 as is for now.-
Take your time, plan , one thing at a time , build the LS engine before you pull
your current engine. Buy the wheels and get your parts before you tear it apart.
Keep us updated !!! Good Luck with whatever you decide to do !

Correct, the wording was off a little; my apologies. It's a C6 rear end in a C3 without the torque tube.

That is not out of a c6. Here is a c6 rearend. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-Corvett...812993&vxp=mtr

I think that is out of a viper, which is basically the same as a c4 but has different suspension and axles with it. Internals are the same.

here is a picture of a viper rear end. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...C32C75&first=1

To the OP, please dont take this wrong, its nice to dream and set high goals, but in reality, building a IRS rear end to fit under the c4 using a c5-6 or even a viper rear is going to take a lot of experience, knowledge, and equipment to build, at least right. In fact, ill bet there are very few shops in the country that could do it, let alone what it would cost. If I was you, I would start with getting rid of the dana 36 rear, and bolting in a dana 44. You can do that for $1,000.00 or so. Build your motor in time and then see what you need for a rearend.

I am pretty sure it is a Viper Rear with C6 or C5 Suspension (upper & lower A-Arms, and Spindle) with coil springs. COPO can build this as I am sure he has.

Steve

Hello,

Not trying to Hi Jack...But-do you have any photos of the exhaust with the Watts Linkage? I just purchased a Strange 9" with Alum Center for my 92. I may go with a TriAngulated 4 link (to elminate any locator).

Thanks,

I went with NewmansCarCreations for my rear end. They were great to deal with and no issues yet. I haven't ran car yet with new mods but I'm hoping for mid 11s

Paul is "good people"!

Any differential requires maintenance - you don't just change fluids and drive on! Maintenance will vary with use but it needs to be regular and is a nuisance.
