ZF 6-speed,looking into a new shifter for a winter project.Car is a 91.Any input will help. thanks
a PO put a B&M in my C5. Notch-y and doesn't always want to go into gear. Took it in and had it checked. Properly adjusted and everything. I'm gonna do a mod to lower the detent, but jeez, man.
You can replace your original shift rod with one from Zfdoc.com. He does a mod to the original that changes the fulcrum point. So you send yours in as a core. Just another option to consider. At least check out his sight, lots of good info.
Another vote for the ZF Doc package. If I had a '91 OR any ZF with the lift-ring for reverse I would likely spend the extra $$'s and buy ZF Doc's modified shifter. It retains the lift-ring and accommplishes everything that the Hurst does I believe.
I've a KW Racing modification package that I've never installed that might be my other preference but I don't believe he offers it any longer. I believe his might have been the 1st with a product.
ZF Doc is the only way to go to keep your lift ring. I have had the Hurst and did not like it for that reason. ZF Doc with BMW Motorsports oil and my shifts like a dream.
I've had 3 of the 4 offered, and drove the 4th for an extended period at a track day.
The Hurst was/is the best...bar none.
ZFDoc's comes in a close second...
Scotty White's was the first on the market...and I still have it in a box somewhere. I replaced it with the Hurst when I put the motor in.
Dead last was the B&M...WAY to notchy, too much shift effort. Never could get comfortable with it...and that was after 3 hours of track time in another friends car. The method they used to shorten the shifts took away the leverage of the fulcrum...and I just didn't like it.
I cut a additional inch off my hurst. ST... I believe that is the perfect height.
I did cut my factory Eiffel tower shifter and angled it back a few degrees. With the reverse lock out.
If someone would like to try??
Just had a good read on ZFdocs site,so the 89-94 zf had a fully synchronized reverse that made it possible to hit reverse at speed, that is why the lift ring was used to defeat this.He says its not i good idea to remove this option. So his is looking like a top choice so far.Any more input on this will help.thanks again,Dennis
Not that price would make me pick one over the other but the hurst is a good deal.I guess they both are a pita to install from what i have found doing a search on it.Hope its not as bad as my heater core job was,i almost sold the car over that one..lol.
