My car won't turn over. When I turn the ignition on I don't hear the fuel injection pump. When it was running it sounded like it was missing a few cylinders. Suggestions?
First check your schrader valve and see if you have fuel pressure. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If so, then put it on the valve and check to see what your pressure is. I am assuming you have a 88. Pressure should be up around 36-42 pounds I believe.
Push in the schrader valve....you should get a face full of gas. If NOT, then trace the missing voltage to the fuel pump. My first stop would be the fuel pump relay.
The C4 has a built in backup for that....if the relay fails, you can grind on the starter longer and as soon as that makes 4 psi oil pressure it WILL energize the fuel pump.
Try cranking non-stop for as much as 4-5 seconds...that should be long enough to generate oil pressure.
if no go...then start testing for a dead pump.
Somewhere in all this, verify spark with a spark tester or simply lay a plug on the engine and crank it and watch.
LEESVET is correct in his diagnosis, when get checking the pump and you will.It is real easy to remove and check, and you can check for fuel at same time.john
I checked and the fuel was bad. I cleaned it out and put c-foam and new gas, but it won't start. It did get it to start when I removed the shraeder and sprayed starting fuid, but it didn't last long.
How do I get to the pump? Can anyone send me photos. This is for the '88.
