Your flex plate is also an external balance. Just checking.
yes, its a summit racing 168 tooth external balance, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g100sfi
you cant see it in the picture but it has a weight welded on about opposite the dowel pin (the weight faces the engine).
well after my brother and i arm wrestled with it for about 2 hours its finally back in, i dont think the new engine mounts wanted to squeeze in there ! I must admit those bellhousing bolts and torque converter bolts are just a joy to fit lying under the car
and just as i suspected, the rocker cover hits the windscreen wiper motor housing
You rock dude! Thanks again with all your help over at my thread! Hopefully I will be sitting where you are withing the next few months For now its just a beautiful shiny compartment
Nice build. Get it on the dyno so we can see what kind of power that combo will produce.
its getting closer, but still waiting for the mini starter to turn up (maybe monday ?) and now the rocker cover will have to visit the alloy welder this week, I will start hooking up all the wiring tomorrow,
i want to get back to the hillclimb as soon as i can, that will be my dyno, got 37.2 sec to beat !

Aren't you going to dyno tune it after the build? You could be playing Russian Roulete if you don't.
its the little things that give you grief, half a day to find a bolt and put it in !
slow going, waiting for the starter to turn up and getting someone to alter the rocker cover has cost me another week.
comparison of the new mini starter against the original gm starter,

Reason: finish
update on the engine, it is in and running, had some problems and finally traced it to a bent tang on the engine chip !
this thing sounds wicked !!
will put the Y pipe back on tomorrow and then it might be test drive time !
and a couple of pics,
That thing looks beast! The bent tang amazes me, and I can't believe you found it, what a nightmare that must have been! Can't wait to hear it run!
the good thing about being on CF is the stuff you learn,
i did the paperclip check on the computer and up came #51 - which is prom fault, so i pulled it out, put the original chip in and it started,
my brother was around helping me, he took the chip out in the sunlight and looked closely at it, and found the bent tang, straightened her up and put it in and it fired right up !
Wow, that looks good can't wait to hear it and see the results.
thanks, it sounds a bit milder tho with the exhaust bolted up !
took it for a test drive, metallic sound almost like the engine has a gear drive (and i know it doesnt !), back home and inspection revealed the flexplate scraping against the alloy housing, even after i had already ball-peaned it out, more hammer work and it was fixed,
second test drive was going ok until a couple of the rockers got real loud, so its back in the garage, will have to go thru them all tomorrow
these cars make you work for it dont they ??
That mini starter comparison is something else. The GM unit was reliable.....until it got heat soaked. How would the new starter stack up? One thing I use to have problems with was being in town running errands. Start car, drive for five minutes, shut car off and repeat three or four times. It did not like that at all and showed it with a nice "click" and silence with the key turned to ignition. Good times.
