fuel cell question
Second, on top of most fuel cells there are 2 vents. Where should these vents go, should they just be ran outside or do they need a sort of catch can?
During my stock car days, I recall a driver backing his car into the retaining wall hard. It was at the start of the race. Don't know what kind of fuel cell he was running or if it was ruptured, but it caught fire. That I won't forget. Also, I think a similar situation happened when Dale Earnhardt Jr. was driving one of the Corvette race cars. Last time I think he ever drove one.
Lastly, having the fuel that high in the car isn't good for your center of gravity if you plan to auto cross.
It's really not a big deal. Remove the factory tank and build some mounts to hold the fuel cell where the factory tank was.
On my 84 I welded tabs to the fuel cell and mounted it to the rear bumper support and used a piece of square tubing to mount it at the front. This put the cap in a position so that I can even fill the fuel cell thru the original fuel door on the rear deck/body.
This is mine from the bottom and how I also mounted the fuel pump:
