Couldn't hurt to check. Can you tell me where I'd find that fuse block? Have not worked on the car in a while, and my memory is a bit foggy. Thanks!
You won't find the fuse box mentioned by "65GGvert". It doesn't exist on your car. In the link "HRR" provided Cliff explains in detail the early motor, switch content and location in great detail. He's been very thorough. Limit switch is internal.
"HRR" is correct in the operation of the earlier system that still has the 3 - relay control system. All diagnostics need to be done using the procedures in the appropriate FSM.
If you still have the invoice for the purchase you might post the part # and the vendor. It certainly seems you've likely purchased an appropriate product but maybe a fresh start is called for. The vendor is likely going to ask for an explanation before just doing a replacement.
Do you still have the original motor OR have you already surrendered it to the vendor? You might actually have only had a gear problem with the original.
As I said, I'm not familiar with an 86, but look for switches that are changed at the full end of travel in each direction. I wouldn't think they would be in the motor, but maybe someone who does will let you know.
