If it has a ring gear welded/pressed onto it - it's a flywheel. A "flex-plate" early MOPAR & others terminology did NOT have a ring gear. The ring-gear was part of the converter or a completely different part, GM uses a flywheel and flex-plate assembly procedure for Allison applications.
Are you f-ing kidding me. I am sorry I did not know that the actual gm name was flywheel. But I do know Mr. Smarty Pants, that for 40 years I have been turning wrenches, if you discuss a flywheel to any street mechanic or walk into a parts place to ask for one, 99.9% of all these people are gonna think your tranny is a standard. But thank you for correcting me, I should have written that without checking wikapedia. Please, back to helping to o/p. Let us know how it goes from here. Curious to know what the problem ends up being.

Knowing you saw my post to your other thread regarding trans ID:

Perhaps the "next adventure" is the build of the transmission yourself. Clear the bench and maybe get ready. An '87+ core or maybe if you're a rather successful JY guy you could find a likely candidate that might run & drive.

Down here "CASH FOR CLUNKERS" killed many parts sources, drive-lines (actually engines) were supposed to be disabled by salvage recyclers.

A driveable "core candidate" in someones back yard is a maybe on your side of the border.

Have you shopped a used? A short shaft from most anything can be used with a chop of the output shaft. You want for sure '87+ and preferred I'd think '90+
