An 1/8 mile bracket race is pretty crazy unless you are used to it. Launch is the same. Couple of shifts and look to see where your opponent is. Then look forward to normally see the 1/8 mile cones and 1000' cone for reference and realize the race is over.
No prep 1/8 mile "street race" format is popular right now. 5.50s is pretty darn good in the 1/8. ET with a manual can have a lot to do with how well you drive your car.
A long time ago I lived in Iowa. At that time they didn't have a 1/4 mile track in the whole state. So we went to 1/8 mile a few times.
My last time at an 1/8 mile was in a 462" '68 Firebird on a cool evening. Traction was so poor that after the concrete launch pad it went to asphalt and the spinning was crazy. I actually backed off and hit it again in 4th gear. It still spun all the way through the finish.
Sorry I got sidetracked with that story, but the car usually ran in the 7's. I expect it was a little stronger than an LT4, so rklessdriver's guestimate of 8's is probably pretty close.
