ZFdoc is still making the short shifter and it works well. Got mine installed this summer.
My SPEC clutch came with the best throwout bearing I could find for the c4. got the 2+ which is metallic and kevlar. works smoothly for me on stock lt4

Been a while since I last posted. My builder stalled out on me but he got started in earnest about a month or so ago. To recap my journey with the car. I bought it from a local Chevy dealer for ~2500 bucks. They had it listed for about 6 but they pressure washed the engine which soaked the opti, so I got a deal. The car is a base 93 6spd Coupe Torch Red w/black leather interior.
I had a pretty comprehensive build. The major stuff is summarized below:

Rebuild the LT-1 (stroker 383, Weisco Forged Pistons, Eagle Cast Crank, Eagle 4340 H beam rods, AFR 180cc LT-1 Heads 58cc, Comp Cams 224/230 .503/.510, EFI Crank/Cam Sensor, Holley EFI HP ECU, Pro Form 1.6 rollers, LS7 Coils, Moroso Road Race Pan,BBK 58mm TB, all new engine sensors, etc)

Suspension was completely removed, cleaned with new wheel bearings, hubs (Timken rears, DSE front hubs), ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, QA1 front coil overs, QA1 rear shocks, retaining the stock spring w/ a lowering kit, Banski control arms, Camber arm, an x brace, etc.)

Rebuild the Dana 44 (w/4.10 gears, new U joints, beam plates, etc.)

Refresh the ZF 6-spd, (short throw shifter kit, shim kit, counter shaft, RAM 500hp LT-1 clutch & single mass flywheel, etc.)

Wilwood 14" 6-pot Superlite Front Brake Kit, 12.88" 4 pot Superlite Rear Brake Kit (both slotted not drilled) w/stainless steel lines,)

Exhaust (Long tube Melrose headers, Magna Flow dual out let mufflers, QTP Cutouts)

Refresh AC system...

Rebuild the Steering Rack...

Forge Star CF-5's w/315 35 18's...square setup.

And a bunch of hoses, fluids, various bushings, and miscellaneous stuff to complete what is basically a brand new car.

Tomorrow I'll post the gear box, diff, and suspension work that has happened to date. Also the drive train is in the car, I'll post pictures of that.

Oh btw, I picked up this a week ago.

Keep the updates coming! I like what I'm seeing. I fear, however, that you've bought into a never-ending repair project with that F-car... Don't let it distract you from the C4!

I'm going to rebuild the suspension on the 308 in a few weeks. Ball joints and bushings. Except for the motor, a really simple car. Mine has a rebuilt motor, trans, ignition (pertronix), and a few other doodads. The 4 webers need a tune/synch. These cars are reliable when they are sorted.

Beautiful
Sorry if I missed it, but did you do RAM kit that eliminates the slave cylinder for the ZF?
Also, congrats on the 308!

I think he installed it.

Ironically, I'll do more wrenching on the Ferrari than this Vette. I'm about ready to rebuild the suspension in a couple of weeks.

If you want to.learn and work on sports cars buy a European one. Just the way it is, they're like women the sexier the higher the maintenance required.
Cool project. You listed lots of changes is there a particular goal? Track, Auto X, OUSC...etc?

A few new things. that happened last week. One note on the front suspension, I had the builder install the Detroit Speed X-TRACKER HUB ADAPTER KIT for the front end. Might be over kill but the 315's will have more grip than the stock front end was designed for. The next few pics are the rear suspension getting buttoned up, the brakes should be complete by now with final assembly this week into next week. Ought to be on the dyno next week.

Melrose long tube headers ceramic coated after test fit...needed some persuading in a few spots

Front suspension...note the DSE Xtrac Hub Adapter. Stock mounting for brakes and wheels perserved.

Rear suspension with partial wilwood install (Super Lite R 4 pot 12 inch) and note the QA-1 double adjustable shocks. The brakes should be complete by now.

Panoramic view of the rear end.

I think it's not overkill if the car is going to see any track time, and maybe even autocross time. It's not just tire size that increases grip, but modern tire compounds. Any kind of competition rubber is going to send cornering loads soaring past what the designers conceived in the late 70s when this car was being designed. And good replacement front bearings for the OE design are no longer made, so the front bearings are a real weak spot for C4s in these applications.

It would be criminal if this car did not see track time.

Incredible build. I really hope your guy gets the holley system working great, then maybe you can post some details on the conversion.

Thanks, I think it will end up being a super fun car.

He has done this conversion a couple of times. I think he has it down pat even has a big board for fabbing the wiring harness. Based on what I've seen from folks like Golen and some other LT1 builders this motor should get ~520hp at the crank, although about 100lbs heavier than an LS is hp competitive with those mills. The 4:10 rear diff should provide "lively" acceleration.

I'll post the dyno numbers when they come in.
