I do all the work myself on my cars except for AC stuff and tires. At the time I had no idea how susceptible to damage the transmitters were. GM should have figured out a way to mount them closer to the center of the wheel and away from the edge. They originally mounted all my tires backward so I had them correct that and watched them do it. I pointed out to them the label the instructs where to break the bead. But none of the mattered because the sensors just were no longer there. To be honest, it would be challenging not to screw them up even if great care was used. Just a bad design. One of these days I am going to remove the warning light from the dash.

Used to be, I would but as I grow older and my body less tolerant of doing the work and my time getting less and less, I have to make decisions as to what is worth my doing and what is to be farmed out. Also, I have had to give away too many tools that were just gathering dust and taking up space. My circular saw, circular saw for example. I haven't used them in years and they sit in the shed and I have to move them around when I take the summer stuff out or the winter stuff out. I kinda decided that if a job needs "one off" tools, I am going to just farm it out. Farm it out doesn't mean I give you the car and my credit card and you call me. I usually want to watch what is going on unless I trust you enough to do the job right. Nothing pisses me off more than having to dispose of tools that I don't use anymore.

I hear you....there really is nobody around here I would trust with anything I couldn't absolutely do myself. I would love to have someone I could go to and know the job would be done right. I guess it also has a lot to do with where the money is.... high volume main steam stuff. I get it.

Thing is, you can definitely find someone to do it right. How right depends on how much you are willing to pay. At some point, it won't make sense. I have a broken upper intake manifold gasket. It wouldn't take me long to do it. OTOH, if I have a broken head gasket and have to pull the heads and more than likely, find some stuff that I have to do while I am there, it might be a while on the stands. The other option is to send it to someone professional who could do it in 2 days and take a bit of a risk that they could mess it up. OTOH, there is nothing to say I cannot mess it up and I have messed up work before.

Around here it is all about the money and getting it done quickly. I had my engine built by one of the area's respected race engine builders and could write a book regarding my ridiculous experience and I paid top dollar to have it done. I know there are some good ones out there but the ratio in the Atlanta area is not good. I have had several bad experiences with people who are highly regarded. I am also one of those people who is willing to pay for a job well done. Anyway..... I am happy you have people you can rely on. We are planning to relocate to a more rural area in a couple of years...hopefully I will be able to find some establishments that rely on word-of-mouth to promote their businesses and have to be honest and do good work to survive.

Here in Charleston we have one place that you know it will get done right. Jamisons Custom Corvettes.
Otherwise, you are on your own.

Don't know but I think that unless there is some good reason, most places are about the money. Push it through and move forward with the next money maker.

As to the word of mouth people, I have yet to have much luck with them. Most who rely on that solely usually are small outfits who are living paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to advertise.
