Difficult to say. The yellow residue points to a fire extinguisher being used.
There was damage to the wiring between engine and firewall, near the distributor. I found that the harness was not clamped down. So it might have touched the engine.
No way to tell though if that was removed before or after.
Someone definitely did something to the engine/airplenum.
The intake manifold sealant was not factory, the tps sensor was way off and the throttle body says Edelbrock. The spark plugs wire ends were mixed up as well. What should have been connected to distributor was on the plugs and vice versa. Relays on driver side were just dangling around and not clamped down where they were supposed to be.
there was something else that was not right but I forgot what it was...
The few times I had the car running I never noticed any gasoline smell not saw any leaks.
Started comparing my harness to the 88 in more detail and there are too many small differences.
So I started to open up my original and I do think it can be fixed.
The one spot that appeared to be damaged the most is actually not too bad now that the plastic shielding is removed. Photo below.
I reached out to jims performance to see if he wants to take on this job. If not I will do it.
The 88 harness will be my donor for connectors which are no good on mine.
Shipping my original harness to jim. While he is working on it I am addressing other things on the car.
I have always wondered about one wire/connector that was not going anywhere.
does anybody know what this is, where it goes? It's the green/white wire in the pic.
That looks like a knock sensor pigtail-but it should be on the passenger side not the driver side. Look right between the spark plugs for cylinders 6 and 8 (rear passenger side), it should plug into the sensor right there.

that's what it is. The plastic on that connector on the engine is completely broken off that's why I didn't see it before. Have go replace. Thank you for finding it
I think it's the cooling fan switch though from what I researched after your tip.
Was looking at all my pics that I took during disassembly and realized there was nothing bolted down to the circled part of the intake manifold. At least I didn't find anything.
what should go there?
Here a pic...
it's really a 'get to know your car' now.
Never noticed that lever o/ slider top of steering column. No idea yet what it does and need to research. I also never noticed the reading lights in the rear view mirror before. Really cool.
Looks like I have to pull the steering wheel at some point. Done it several times on my Chevy truck, so nothing new but always disliked doing it.
there was also a thing between dash and windshield that looks like an antenna. Not sure what that does and have to trace the cable.
Maybe someone put that in instead of fixing the rear antenna. Also have to see what that little red light is supposed to do that's left of the steering wheel. Don't think that's stock.
My 90 does not have the lever, they did away with it in that year but my 84 that I used to have had it and if I remember correctly it allows you to extend and retract your steering wheel. also since your working on wiring my latest video is about solder guns.
To make it a little easier take a screw driver and pop out the button in the middle of the shifter **** then remove the c-clip, pull up on the shifter **** and it will allow you to get your shifter boot off.
Doesn't bother for now.
Spent some time under driver side panel. I don't even know where to start. Trying hard to understand what was done and why... Have to get my manual out and see what's what.
The pic in the middle: there are two relays that were wired in. A lot of pins are being jumped and there is no connector. It's all just Home Depot connectors held in place by tape. There is also an online fuse going into one of them.
I don't think this was done because of the starter button. Maybe the harness was from a different year and they modified it? No idea. Doesn't make sense to me right now.
Sir, you have a challenge! A bunch of that wiring is from a previously installed Keyless Remote Entry, or a Remote Start system by Directed Electronics. https://www.directed.com/
Unfortunately, the system was crudely removed, so you'll have fun figuring out how to remove all the extra stuff you no longer need.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
