When I pulled the heater box cover out (or whatever it is called) a plastic tube fell out from somewhere and I can't find the heater core replacement section in my fancy new 3 book manual.
the plastic tube in question is about 6 inches long, has a slight bend to it and is about 1 inch (maybe a bit more) in diameter. Looking around it doesn't even seem to attach anywhere.
does anyone have a pic of a parts diagram?

Well, not sure. Been looking everywhere and can't seem to find a spot for this piece.

Don't know what the fastguy method is. Is that an actual thing or a forum user's name who came up with an easy way?
But yes, seat is out and I was on my back once or twice to figure things out.

I also figured out why the lever on my manual climate control only went half way and then seemed to be stuck...
It actually did open the door all the way. There is an adjuster for the cable. It was set incorrectly. After I adjusted the cable the lever moved up a bit more but not all the way. The cable looked brand new.
There are also many parts labelled 86 with marker that I found. The kind of handwriting you find on eBay items.
Was on the ECU holder, the center console and somewhere else. I am pretty sure someone was in there at some point. Would also explain the wiring hack for the center console switches.

New heater core arrives today which means I can take that item off my list. I ordered the two inlet outlet hoses and will put them in once they get here.

As for the wiring, not exactly sure how to proceed yet. Car ran, so I could either clean everything up and leave as is or really start digging into it. For that I'd have to trace every wire, figure out where it goes and fix.
or get a replacement harness.
the one thing I definitely need to figure out is what was cut to prevent the car from starting with key.

I think I will pull the remaining dash to get easier access to wiring. Being 6.2 doesn't help and I can't fix wiring on my back with no place to put my long arms...

Well that sucked. Got heater core today but the pipes were too long. At least an inch longer than on the one I pulled. Hit the tubes in engine bay and heater core would still not be seated.

Crazy times we are going through. I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Finally got to work on car again.
I started pulling the interior and pulled up the dash a bit to get better access to the wiring.
Think I figured out what was done, now it's just going through the pain of fixing spliced wires etc. Biggest issue is getting enough access.but it's better now that I have an additional inch.

The heater core is back in the car and connected.
I also cleaned the distributor and replaced parts on it.
Nothing else to be done under the hood until I have the wiring back.

Ordered a few more parts, like oxygen sensor and that horn contact plastic retainer which pretty much pulverized when I touched it.

Getting there. I removed the additional wiring and fixed wires on the outer left side.
still need to solder three wires on the right side (from steering column) and tape everything nicely.

i have two wires unaccounted for. It's a white one and a salmon (or peach) colored one. Have to check what they are doing. I was not able to find the 'counterparts'.
Means I am almost done on the interior.
Want to hook up battery soon and do some testing. Have to think this through though to not blow anything. Mainly want to test switches in door and center console.

There is one remaining question though: how was the ignition disabled to prevent car from cranking with key. I am hoping to not have to take the steering colum apart to look at the ignition lock/cylinder but might have to in case something was disabled there.

Also, I can't identify the following relay in my manual.
its behind the dash on passenger side.
Looks like someone used silicone to fix it and it fell apart...
What is it called?

It can be seen in the first pic.
It is attached using two bolts. It is in the ECU area, close to firewall. I will try to take a better pic for easier orientation

Are those wire colors pink, orange, pink/black, and black? That would be your Bose speaker amp relay.

Before you connect your battery, do a "Spark Protection Procedure". Take an old headlight and wire it in series with one of your battery cables. If the light shines when you hook it up, you have a short, but nothing will smoke! The light should not shine when you connect it. Most accessories will work just fine with the headlight in series with the battery Try the starter. The light should shine.

Spot on. After your answer I googled for that relay and found a video showing exactly that. Thank you Sir.

Here the video:

And thanks for the tip with the light, this is great and exactly the tip/trick I was looking for.

I don't have the engine harness in yet because it's still with Jim's performance but that shouldn't matter if I just want to test internals. I also have to get the window power switch for the driver side door. The connector was there but not the switch itself.

There is a line going from the shift stick to underneath the steering column. It attaches to a piece that looks like it is missing a connector. I wonder if my two stray wires were once a connector that plugs into there?

in the pic it's the one with the black hose.

Dashboard back in place and I also put in climate control and info center.
behind the radio is a pink/black wire connector that was not connected to anything from the beginning. Does anyone know what it's for? There is an aftermarket radio in the car. Could that wire be a leftover from the original radio wiring?

There is also this gray wire connector that never went anywhere. The wire is coming from the info center. Doing some research it appears to be a ground wire?

Other than these two connectors plus the two cut wires I mentioned in a previous post everything appears to be accounted for.
I will go through all manuals I have and see if I can identify the two connectors.

See post 156. That wire is also used to activate your power antenna. Most aftermarket radios have a pink wire for this purpose.

You're doing good!!
