I, too, had the A/C directional control problem. I simply pulled the manifold cover off and reinstalled it. But since the retaining nut is recessed deeply in the cover I took a small amount of rubber hose to slide over the bolt allowing me to tighten down a little further out on the bolt. It cured the problem. That was years ago and it still directs air as commanded. Of course any type of sleeve to slide over it would work. Although the rubber hose proved successful a metal sleeve might even be better.
