So 250rwhp is great with the stock intake (kind of unbelievable really) but a bit under done I would think on the ported intake. On the dyno mine is all in at 5000rpm and drops off pretty fast. The funny thing is on the road it feels like it is still pulling hard at 6000! What I love about these engines is there is some much bolt on horse power available.
Stock unit. There is plenty on the table imo. You should read the flow bench thread.

It is performing exactly how it should based on the flow data I found for a stock unit... so quite impressive agreed.

Also, long time no see. How have you been and how are the cars running?

Yeah man that’s that’s good. It certainly puts all the nay sayers in their place.

Yep I haven’t been hanging around the forum much. I kind of got sick of answering the same questions over and over again. But TBH I’ve been hanging around Facebook doing exactly the same thing. The difference is that here there are knowable people so the OP should get the right answer. Also here people do a bit of research before they ask a question. On Facebook it’s a case of “let me google that for for you”. But you should check it out some of the stupid stuff I read is quite entertaining.

My 84 road car has been going just fine every now and again I make a slight adjustment to the tune for drivability (normally leaning out the bottom end a bit). I’ve got a much better understanding of INT BLM than I did a couple of years ago.

The 84 race car had an encounter with a wall courtesy of my son, so that was a bit of a bummer and took some time and money to sort out. Actually I managed to acquire an Edelbrock Pro Flo 1 that I’m going to install on the race car. At this stage I’m undecided as to whether I’ll use the Edelbrock ancient engine management or use a Haltech. I’m leaning towards haltech because I have a bit of experience with them.

So speaking of haltech we run one in a bmw e36 race car that my son also drives. This car has a stock m54 3 liter engine with a set of 45mm ITBs off an s54 (M3). Everyone said that they would be too big etc etc but after some time on the dyno this thing is a rocket ship. Apparently it only make 200rwhp but the throttle response is brutal. With the haltech you can get it spot on. In hindsight I should have run one in my road corvette as well. Sure MoTech is the best but for the price point I think haltech are the way to go. Something for you to consider 🤣

Glad everything is going alright. Yes an aftermarket EFI system is probably a smart move... but being honest I have the drivability down pretty well with the EBL unit.

The vette is kind of weird... jittery I'd say but as the graph shows, performing quite well.

Stupid questions. Yeah. I'm on a truck page on facebook and its the same way. Annoying. And some of the crap people come up with just blows my mind.

Yes mine drives pretty well as well. I think what is often forgotten is that these cars have a wet intake so you get the same issues that you would have with a carby. Considering that and when they where manufactured they perform very well with both the factory and the EBL ECM. I think in hindsight it would probably be a bit easier to dial them in with something like a Haltech but mine starts on the button, idles hot or cold and performs well in the temperature and altitude variations that I expose it to. So that not very cold and not very high 🤣

Drives way better than any carb I've had. And I've had some pretty well dialed ones. Have driven a couple TPI cars and wasn't overly impressed. The jump to LT1 and onward with gen 3 was better but then you come back to torque management and how drive by wire just seems to always feel crappy. It has it's advantages for sure but I like the non-linear feel of a cable vs the dampened feel of the DBW. I start it on a 30 degree day and it drives as well as a 90 one. on the 67 I adjust the choke lol.

Couldn’t agree more. My point was that because it’s a wet intake you should have all the carby issues but you don’t, which is testament to the capability of the GM engineers at the time and how they tuned that primitive ECM.

I think the TPI cars are cool and they are all steps in the evolution. Batch fire is a bit of a sledge hammer by today’s standards (for a road car) but a dry intake was pretty revolutionary. Also these engines pathed the way for aluminium heads and roller cams, breathing new life into the SBC.

The LT1/4 was a necessary step towards the LS engine but I always think that there are enough ingredients there for more HP because it really has all the LS features (minus the individual coils) in a SBC package.

And yes I agree DBW is **** but you can program it to be much better than factory. In my 6.0 SS commodore if I mash the throttle it regulates my input. I have learnt just how fast the press the throttle to get that butterfly open quick. It’s a candidate for a remap.

I've had a couple tuned DBW vehicles and they're still annoying but better.

Yeah, technology is a great thing. Always wondered why reverse cooling was abandoned but it was probably just for service annoyance more than anything... otherwise gen 5 seems to be the ticket. That is borderline race car parts on a factory engine.

Yeah I don’t know why they abandoned the reverse flow but it may have been due to bleed issues.

yeah. It does help but in a street car, probably not the best for in and out service.

Cost, IMO. Pontiac had reverse flow cooling in the 50's, they abandoned it for cost, I've read. I also read that with the LS1, they were able to achieve their goal with out using RFC....so I interpret that to mean that it cost more.

I wanted to share one other bit of info. The VE curve compared to the torque curve. Notice they're damn near identical once the power rolls in. pretty cool and showed me early on another point to where I knew the outcome of the dyno.

Notice it lagging behind slightly? I assume that is to do with the air flow restriction of the intake because it otherwise matches too well.

I think the tq lags b/c of timing. You don't have full timing at 1800 RPM, I don't think.

Light throttle timing 1800 rpm: 37 degrees, WOT 27 degrees. Max advance at 2500 with a 4 degree ramp as PE climbs in rpms. Basically when I am in PE mode it ramps in extra timing. All in at the top of the curve should've been 36 degrees. at 2500 its about 30 before the ramp up. It does lag everywhere.

You're right, it does lag across the whole curve. Weird. I'd expect the Tq and VE to run toe-to-toe.

I wonder if its the delay from injector pod to valve... while about instant it may be just enough.... its only a hundred or 2 rpms it seems.

Could be? I guess depending on how fast the engine is accelerating during that pull?

IDK. That doesn't seem to be fast enough (acceleration) to "out run" the speed of fuel through the intake. IDK....I don't "get it". Someone who tunes a lot might be able to explain it?

Car sounds and looks good!

You think its because it isn't running in 1:1? I just thought about it, it wasn't happy doing 1:1 so we ran it in 3rd. Shouldn't affect the results much at all but that could explain.

So I have a dilemma. I have a line on another (yes I know) CFI intake. I'm debating using that one, porting the snot out of it and modifying my technique from the first one to make this one more perfect... the real reason I'm after it is because it's everything top to bottom... lid, air housing, TBs, and intake. If the price is right... I'm going for it.
