Default Think before you post!

I am not trying to single anyone out.

More and more, I have been seeing more people post erroneous info on the forum. When wrong info is posted is creates a ripple effect if it goes uncorrected. Please think before you post, if you don’t know the info or not sure about source, please mention it in your post, don't state it as fact. We all have wrong info or misconceptions from time to time, (I know I have been wrong a few times), but I just would like to keep the information as accurate as possible on this forum.

My other pet peeve is people, who don’t read the whole thread before posting.

:iagree: Amen to that! Like most of us here, I usually rely on the information from fellow CF'ers, and if it's not correct or at least SEMI-correct..then we're all up a creek. :nono:

95 out of 100 replies in tech sections are always going to be junk. Its weeding out those that know their stuff that is the artform. :crazy:

Seems to me that whenever I take information from any public forum (like this,) the ultimate responsibility for sifting the BS from the truth is mine. Expecting people not to live up to their ego is a pre-planned resentment :)

Maybe another suggestion that I try to follow too - do a search for your topic before posting a question. People get tired of answering the same questions week after week.

:iagree: Plus, then you get that much more :bs to sift through.

Most of the time I cringe when I see things posted that are obviously wrong, but I don't hold it against someone for giving me a good guess either.

Since we're on this topic, I saw a post at the "other" forum last night that made me cringe. Someone suggested using the TV cable to adjust shift points for a 700r4 :crazy:

Anyway, it's up to the original poster to wade through the muck and pick out the pearls of wisdom. :cheers:

Make me cringes as I made this mistake 8 years ago when I first bought my Vette. Some told me about adjust my shift points with the TV cable and even suggested that I disconnect it for almost manual control. Previously, my tranny was shifting very high 1-2 (5100) so it may have going already, but I can tell you that my tranny was pretty much done after 5 pass down the 1/4 track and a highway race with a GTA F-body.

Well, hope I'm not guilty. I try to research via the search function before asking here, but admittedly have skipped that a few times. I did miss a body style change by a year in a recent post when I told a new guy that the squared tailights and non-caved-in rear fascia began in '92, when in fact it did in '91. DarkHalo corrected me on that one. With regard to technical issues, I usually only post something if it is something I have done and how I did it, if someone is asking.

If I'm ever getting too sloppy, I want someone to tell me so I can adjust my conduct accordingly. :yesnod:

I am shocked, shocked mind you. Thought everything on the internet was true. (Gasp). Kinda like bar stool racing or "I changed my wind shield wipers and can feel the difference". Oh well.

Still, nice cars and lots a nice people. Like driving, you have to watch out.

Keep the faith.

if people did searches everytime & used other options for information do you have any idea how much the post count would take a nose dive? in a way it's annoying to answer the same questions over and over but then again i'd dislike the forum even more if it didn't move and the topic posts slowed down. one thing i do think we should do is log some of the more well used questions into a help forum. my ideas for this would be
#1 known head flow charts for different castings
#2 single mass conversions
#3 the gear ratio calculator link
#4 how to change your brakes the first time
#5 how to flush your coolant
#6 known clutch combos and part numbers for the ZF
#7 pictures of how to port your TPI at home & what's needed
#8 dyno charts from people with different cams, manifolds and cubic inches for comparison
#9 aftermarket stereo install and your options along with a walk through of how to make your double din a single din in two hours or less with fiberglass
#10 how to change your half shaft U joints in a couple hours {i think scorp may have already done a write up on this}

i seriously believe the above topics would do the C4 world a lot of good if they were ever logged for easy access. :thumbs:

That's very good advice about posting a disclaimer if you're not certain or if it's an opinion. I think a lot of us do that.

Also, I've been challenged and/or corrected by fellow Forum members upon occasion and appreciate it. Though I strive for 100% accuracy it doesn't always happen and a solid debate is always welcome.

Speaking of disclaimers. I gave a reply that I was not sure of and followed it with;

"I am not a certified mechanic, nor have I played on on TV and I have not spent the night at a Holiday Inn. This is just my opinion."

Just like gtsyellow stated if you do a search for a topic you will find that just about everything that you can do to a corvette has been covered here. So what do you suggest as a time period that a subject can be brought up again? You know you can ask a question and get some really good answers but if you ask the same question a month from now you maybe will get some more good answers with some maybe being better because not everyone sees every question. If someone is gone from the forum for a week then lots of questions that have been asked and answered have probably cleared the screen and gone. What about that someone that has some really good experience with a question, that was asked and gone, his experience could be lost if that question can not be asked again.
Its a good theory you have but in the real world it doesn't work that way. Too many people in and out of the forum and lots don't read this every day or even every week.
Personally I like to see the forum move at a quick rate that it does, if you don't like answering questions again then don't . But what if you have a question about something you need to really know and it was asked while you were on vacation 3 months ago? You can do a search and just use those answers or maybe just ask again and get some new answers to go along with the old answers.....ex Brake pads come and go, there are new pads put on the market all the time. Should you just go with the old ones that were the best 2 or 3 weeks ago or go with the new pads that were just put on the market last week and designed for your car? I know that question is not likely but it can happen :lol: So lets all lighten up, let some of us that have short memorys not feel like we have to check every thing, even old threads, before we ask a question. :blueangel:

Boy should I put the flame suit on for this one.... (but someone's gotta say it!)

I have noticed that there are people here who (in my opinion) lack the experience to post on certain topics. Some feel that posting on every topic in the world is necessary. Yes, its quite appreciated if you truly know about the topic, but if you don't it can throw some off real good. I am only 22, and I am quite aware of my place in the world- my knowledge is limited to the books, not much hands-on. For that reason, I lurk and post only when I am certain I can help someone.

Not trying to offend anyone, just hoping this will make some think.
