Does anyone know approximately how much weight is removed by taking out the inner structure? Are there any parts that need to stay like the hood support mount? Will it still retain its shape after cutting? This will be used on a dedicated 1/8th mile drag car. I will also remove the headlight assembly's and glass the covers back in place and replace the hood latches with pins.

I have a thread on that I can try to find. It's messy but not difficult or time consuming and it's free. I had a few versions of it, one left the strut in place. Another version I did I moved the strut for more room on that side for coolers I think. It has been awhile. Also check the weight thread it's probably listed there.
Thanks for the links! Thats exactly what im wanting to do. Its an 86 so they appear to be the lightest to start with. This is gonna be home built and ill be removing everything thats not essential. I know ill gain some weight from the solid rear vs the Dana 36 and adding a roll cage. Turbo 400 will add some back too.
Sounds fun! In the picture above the hood still worked like stock. After awhile and hunting for less weight I did go to hood pins. There is a lot to do on these with so many small parts.

Thanks, that's good to know. Cutting weight is like free horsepower. I sure hope it'll be fun, just retired last November and need something to keep me entertained. I'll enjoying building it as much as driving it.
