Default Fuel overflow hose

Hello everybody, thank you in advance for your help and feedback regarding the subject.

While I was underneath my car today, prepping it and cleaning it for NCRS judging I noticed that the gas overflow hose rest right next to the muffler. Personally, I don’t think this is correct. Does anybody have anything to add ?

On my 95 it's next to the Left muffler, in earlier years I believe it came by the License plate to the right of the spare tire nut

I think this is meant to drain water from the gas fill cavity. Hence no issue next to a muffler.

Unless someone is a slob and pulls while pumping or if it doesn't click and overflows

Is this your blue 88 convertible? On all years, the hose comes out through a hole in the aluminum rear extension brace in the location in both pics above. Your muffler's shell is longer than an OEM muffler. Stock mufflers end ahead of the hose, the end of the hose can't drain onto the muffler.

You mentioned you are entering your 88 for "NCRS Judging" in the Dallas (Frisco) Regional. Registration was extended to October 8 (this Wednesday) because turnout was so light. I don't see an 88 registered. If you're still planning on this, better get your entry in pronto.

In a thread of yours in April I responded with a lengthy discourse on what to expect in NCRS judging. There have been a couple of major changes in C4 and NCRS judging since then. The 20 years C4 National Team Leader (the guy in charge of the Division, selects the judges, and is the go-to individual for "what-about-this" questions) passed away in June. The new NTL is a complete outsider to C4, has never judged with the team, and while he owns a couple of ZR-1, he has never had a C4 judged. He basically has zero experience with the Team, or knowledge regarding the nuances of 13 model years of the C4 itself. There is also a new National Judging Chairman. This is the head of the NCRS Judging program. The new guys are changing things around. I, and some other longtime members of the C4 team are a little miffed with the appointment of an outsider as our new NTL. In April I indicated I would likely be attending Texas Regional. As of today, I am not. There's only one C4 entered (a 96), and I'm laying low for now waiting to see what happens with the direction of C4 judging under the new 'management'. I was looking forward to meeting you. Perhaps in the future?

Enter your 88 for Texas. They need cars. I have no clue who C4 has for judges for Texas. Some of the C4 regulars that know what they're doing won't spend the money for lodging and travel to judge 1 car. They may have to recruit the desk clerk and pizza delivery boy to fill-in. Low quality judges equates with low-quality results. Owners don't receive a good, fair, assessment of their car under The Standard. But the cars score well (higher) because low-experience judges miss a lot and don't take deductions where warranted.

NCRS (especially C4) is changing. If you go, have fun. Report back with your assessment of your experience.

Not trying to be coy IHBD, but why don't you consider putting your name in the hat for judging? I know you've had a lot of these, and you'd be able to point out what was factory and what is not...

Mine doesn't run anywhere near the muffler.

It runs just a tad left of the spare tire bolt, near the license plate.

That's on my '90.

Earlier ran down and out below the license plate which I like because it's a straight line from Bibb to ground I'm not sure if the new way is prone to clogging

I am indeed a C4 NCRS Judge. 20 years. Early in my days on Corvette Forum, I'd mention my NCRS background but I received so much static and criticism, I don't mention it any more.

No. It has always been on the left side, near the muffler. There's a hole in the aluminum that it protrudes through.

Here is a picture of my unmolested 1985. I just took it. As I mentioned in my post above, I've scrutinized several hundred C4 Corvettes over the past 20 years. The hose is positioned exactly the same on all years of C4 Corvettes. Cheers.

this is a 1985, built in April. Picture taken from inboard looking outboard to the driver's side.

We also know that awhile back you replaced the fuel tank in your 90. If the hose is now "nowhere near the muffler" it is because you didn't re-route the hose back to its original position. It is supposed to protrude through the hole in the aluminum. Cheers.

Hm. I'm gonna have to give that a look, Thanks.

I didn't even know that there was a hole for the hose to run through.

Default Thanks

Hello everybody thank you for all your feedback on this subject. This is not from the 88 which was going to be in the judging, couldn’t get the 88 in this year as I ordered parts back in July and they still haven’t come in. I had to order new door panels and Al Knock sent me the incorrect color, waiting on the correct ones. But you’ll see the 88 next year! I am bringing my white 96 convertible/hardtop and I do have the original factory hardtop from 1996. From what I understand only 429 Corvettes that year got the optional hardtop.

Look forward to seeing you guys this week and once again, thank you everybody so much.

225 CC2 Hardtops on Convertibles in 1996. If you Flight Judge the car with the hardtop installed, the convertible top must be present folded up in the well. If the hardtop is left at home, the wrench and torx tools should remain in the car. The Interior Team should find "CC2" on the SPID, and will be looking for the tools even if the hardtop isn't there. (You'll have John M on the Interior. The most knowledgeable C4 Interior Judge ever.)

Have fun in Frisco. I will not be attending; perhaps we will meet at a future event. I'm curious who the individuals are that will be available and selected for the C4 Team. I haven't missed a Texas Regional since 2016. However, I'm not inclined to spend the money and 4 days of travel to judge 1 car, and such a lightly attended event overall. Report back on your experiences.

Have fun!
