Default Starter wire routing — where does this go?

This starter wire broke - the weird end is where the fusible link is supposed to be. So of course I ripped it out to replace the wire with a new one. However, I don’t know where the other end of the wire goes. I thought it went to ground, but I researched and found that the starter uses the engine block as ground. So where does the other (non broken wire end that’s pictured) go? That way I know where the new wire routes to from the starter

Black is a ground generally. I would look for a bolt or stud that fits the size of the eyelet on the connector, use the length of wire to see where it stretches to. Maybe a bell housing bolt that has a stud.

Default Wire with eyelet.

It appears like there is a threaded hole above starter solenoid for that wire? Red wire is a fuse link as you said.

There’s supposed to be another eyelet where the red wire is, and that goes on the starter motor along with the other starter wires. I’m just confused on where the other end goes

What year is your car? (There are different configurations of the wiring and fuse links dependent on the year.)

Can you open up the loom to expose all the wires and their colors that go up behind the rear of the engine? Some years have multiple red wires spliced to a single fuse link, some years have multiple fuse links combined into a single eye terminal that goes on the solenoid battery stud. A picture of all the wires, and knowing the year of the car will diminish our need to guess.

Here's my guess:
The eyelet in your picture doesn't look large enough to go on the battery stud. The eyelet looks like it was on the "S" terminal of the solenoid. If it was, and is actually red (not purple) it is a previous repair of the purple solenoid S terminal wire. Open the loom and if you find a loose-end purple wire, that is what the one in your hand was/is. The S terminal wire. Not a connection to battery or a fuse link.

I believe my post is being misinterpreted. Both photos are photos of the same wire. The purple s wire is still there inside the loom. There used to be an eyelet that went on the starter’s battery terminal, but the fusible link broke off, leaving me with the picture shown. I’m replacing that wire because of that, and I’m confused on where the other end (NOT the end that goes to the starter) goes.
I have a 1984.

That eyelet still seems too small to fit on the battery stud. I'm out.

See if this thread helps you.
It is of an 84, has lots of pics, and some discussion regarding repairs.

I don’t know how this has never come up before but I feel pretty silly. It fits to the post on the alternator. I don’t know what it’s for but it fits perfectly, and it’s in the same loom as the alternator. Had to dig into the other wiring harness I had to find it

Yes, that was for the alternator.
