I had a 'check engine' light come on a few times today, so after checking obvious things (oil, coolant, trans fluid), I bought an OBD II tool to try to read the codes. This is the Acutron Pep Boys sells. I get power to the thing, but 'link error' when I try to do anything with it (read or clear codes). It works on my 2000 Blazer.
I have tried with the key out, in and off, on, and even disconnected the battery for a few minutes, still get the same. I don't see any bent pins or anything, the manual says there might be a seperate fuse for the data link, but I didn't see anything obvious. Any ideas?
VIN P in 1996 is OBD2 thats when the switch over occured. Prior to that even though it uses the same ALDL port as OBD2 cars it is still OBD1. As for shorting the pins together, I don't think that will work either as the Corvette PCM does not communicate the same as the earlier ECMs did.
You can download several free scan tools that would work on your car, but you need a cable to communicate with it.
Well I got an auto xray unit and was finally able to pull the codes, right 02 sensor.
I was checking it out and found kind of a ring with a wire attached had wiggled up to the top, so I made it a little tighter. I imagine maybe it is a ground lead or something, no codes so far :)
