It's been a while since I did this mod (and memory is 1st to go ) but I just took a look at the pic on my site for a refresher.
Since the gate is smooth through the fwd gears it was necessary to deepen the steps; this has the effect of raising the shifter shaft.
I now believe I could have cut the steps a little shallower and still gotten good indexing between gear changes. If you have the patience you might try that on your first cut.
The hammer is shorter, It might fit better. the mega shifter can be cut down a little, and welded back together, then plated, a new trim piece can be cut out of (kidex) plastic, cover the boot, install new trim plate, Worse case would be to loose the ash tray, I could live with that....
some of the other brands could be smaller and eaiser to work with, also their are street rod products out their.
were not talkin rocket science here....
another isue is netural safety switch, and revirse lights, NHRA & IHRA they checked mine.
The Megashifter comes with both the neutral safety and backup switches. Not too hard to wire them both up. The only thing you lose is the interlock with the column key lock where you have to have it in park to get the key out. There isn't anything to hook that cable up to so you just wire it tight inside the console.
