I've said this once and I'll say it again (and offend some Viper owners on here in the process I'm sure)...But... The Viper is the perfect car for the "gold chain sect."

Screw the two extra cylinders, V-8's are as american as apple pie, vipers are just a Lambhorgini knock off. Vettes are the real deal all original, all our own ideas, it is the true definition of americana. :flag
Lambos have 12 cylinders and the name Corvette is British. Have you ever looked at a 53 Vette. It looks just like a Porsche of the same year from the front. As a matter of fact. The whole idea of building an American sports car was based on the European designs. The true meaning of American is to take what has already been done and make it better then present it as our own. I wouldn't have it any other way. :flag
I raced a Viper from a stop last Sunday. We raced from 0-100 or so, lets just say he didn't seem too thrilled to see the taillights of a family sedan  After we raced he wouldn't come within 10 car lengths of me, when I turned off he looked right at me with some confused stare. Yep that's right, my four door sedan just handed your $80K Viper it's butt :D
i dug around the net abit and couldnt find it,but just the other day at the dentists office i read a rode report on the new viper and got quite a chukle out of it.
they were rippin it to shreds.
i remember they said it was hot, real hot.inside temperature cooks you type hot from the sidepipes.they said if youve ever sat in traffic on a harley on a hot summer day you know what hot is,and this is hotter. :lolg:
what else.... the handling-the reviewer refused to go over 110 mph in it twitchin around to much.
and loud, deafening drones that defy the audio output capability.
i cant remember all the rants but basically they considered it a p.o.s.
although they did admit that it was very powerful.
they were bummed about the lack of any niceties in a car that cost that much too,no power items or cruise control etc.
wish i could find it
manufacturers all know that theres a small fragment of the market that buy "bragging rights",be it cars or superbikes or whatever.
some manufacturers go for that unique "niche",some wont compromise quality, safety,or comfort just to get it.

If you took one for a ride you would probably disagree with the reviewer. The SRT Viper is an awesome car! I've read a review where a guy complained that there wasn't an automatic transmission :lolg:
I have a friend who has a 2002 R\T 10.I will see if he wants to race
and post the results.I personally think it would be very interesting.
He has smooth tubes and a corsa exhaust system.I have a couple of
mods on the ZR1 also.I have ridden in the Viper and it does pull very
hard.
But IMHO, it's Us vs. Them. American vs. Imports. And I'm not talking Accord's and Corolla's. I mean GT2's, M-5's and assorted Italian trash and the Viper is the 'Vette's only ally in the war. Say what you want about the parent company but the Viper is an American sports car. Although not deserving of the familiar C4 wave, it's still nice to have a 488 cubic inch Gorilla on your side.
That may all be true, but I said the viper was a lambo "knock off" meaning it was just a wanna be. As for the vette being a copy of the porsche in '53, well the way I understand is they had a heck of a fast production year to design it and make it run, and I haven't seen any other resemblence of another car in the vette since then, have you? In the beginning we may have looked similar from the front, but only three years later it became more our own, even more so in 1963 and so on. And what great people's idea was this, the proud, the few, the Americans :flag .
Big Jim, you're right it is us vs. them, Chevrolet vs. everyone else. Chevrolet is the greatest car manufacturer in the world, have you ever watched nascar, throughout all the years the fastest cars have always been Chevys, and the most nit picked held back and hated by nascar officials, Chevy. They've always done everything they could to cheat for ford and dodge. But we've always had the greats behind the wheel, "Smokey" Yunick, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt etc. So you are right it is US vs. them.
I loved beating them when I drove my C3. Of course, it was a tad bit faster than my stock c4 :D
I would simply embarass them...from a dead start or from a highway speed roll. I got a lot of respect from the viper crowd after a few years. It sucked because then the only people who would race me were motorcycles...and I only got beat by two of them...one an FJ1200 with racing carbs/bigger cams and a kerker pipe...the other was a GSX10R I have no idea what he did to it if anything. (BTW: I was on the back of that FJ as a passenger while at over 200 MPH...that thing was just way overpowered!)

Ummm...yea, I have.
The C1's were getting their asses handed to them from the Jag's in early stock car circuits. GM decided it wanted to win..so GM went out and BOUGHT a few Jag racing cars...tore them down and re-engineered the first IRS vette out of it. Then the Vettes ruled the races until they were disqualified due to the fact they were winning everything.
So...to sum it up, the IRS vette is designed after the Jag racing car, same type suspension, same weight distribution but more tire and more power.

Re: Vette vs Viper (BBA)
As far as Vipers go... check out the following video.
Disclaimer: I don't condone street racing of any sort, the following video is for informational purposes relating to the Viper's performance characteristics.
I don't know if the two Grand Nationals are stock, or who's driving them.. but here goes... it was sent to me by another member and I'm hosting it for him.
First of all big jim is right. The viper and vette are what america stands for, huge torque motors, not high rev rice leakers. The viper is FAR from a piece of shi? as some have implied. My buddy had a 94 with the generation I motor, hennessey headers and exhaust and that thing was a friggen beast. The Viper is made for a very niche market, thats why theres only been about 10k built (GIVE OR TAKE) since inception. In my opinion the Viper is one the best looking cars on the road. My buddy had his slammed with HRE'S and women would loose there minds when they saw the car. The corvette stock is an ugly car in my opinion. This is coming from a guy who is on his 6th one in 7 years, I LOVE THE VETTE, and will always have one.All my vettes have had stiff azz coil overs, and all the mods, and been brutal on the street. I am in the process of buying my first home that will be built in 8 months, I will walk in with 100k equity and by a 99 viper (last year of the forges pistons) and turn my LT4 into a 396 stroked monster. The Viper is one of the baddest cars on the planet and I'm sick of this Viper-vette crap, two different cars, two different markets, two race cars for the street. :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag
Sorry, did I hurt your little feelings!!!!!! Like I said that is my opinion. I have never and will never drive a stock anything. The corvette IS one of the best looking cars on the road when tricked out, whees/tires, slammed, racing brakes etc. If I wasn't in love with the car I wouldnt have owned 6 of them. It's amazing in this country how many sensative azz people there are, I'm truly sorry if you dont agree with me but the whole point of my post was that just because a viper isn't a vette, doesnt mean you have to slam it. Slam all the other non american cars!
All the liberals offended by my remarks please forgive me, I repent!    :U :U :U :U :boxing :boxing :boxing :banghead:
