I still have the shake in my steering wheel. As i drive down the street, if i let go of the whhel i can see it shake back and forth a good 1/4' in each direction. It is a very pronounced feeling while holding the wheel. It happens on all road conditions at all speeds. I have rebalanced all four wheels and tires and dont see a bent one either. I dont want to randomly relace stiff. Is there a list of what i can check to help this out. I have heard it incurable but dont believe it. I heard also its more common in coupes but obviously not. I would Love to eliminate this. :steering: :smash:

The "shake" is not incurable, these things didn't come from factory with a "shake"
Not that you should start replacing things, but just maybe check off the following
1 Tire pressures
2) wheel alignment
3) age and condition of shocks
4 condition of tie rod ends
5 condition of bushings in sway bar and elsewhere
When I bought mine five or so years ago, it had a slight shake at around 50mph..combination of things, tire pressure and shocks seemed to cure it. Shocks on these things can wear out fairly quickly. I have gone through billsteins in 25000 miles
Hi. Im chasing this problem on my 86 coupe. After new shocks, tyres, alignment, wheel balancing and tightening my hood up a bit, its better but still nothing like eliminated.
As every1 says - its a combination of things - but u shouldn`t have to live with it, cos it really ruins the feel of the car no matter how well it handles. :nonod:
New tyres and shocks seemed to make the biggest difference but obviously the old ones were only making the shaking worse - not the actual cause of it.
However, i`ve been inspired by Gregs88 posts on the propshaft being loose.
Just checked mine and it sure is - so i`m gonna get a new bushing in the tail end of the transmission where the prop goes in. It really does feel like it could be that - but i guess theres only 1 way to find out.
Ok I'm going to borrow a set of wheels and tires from another car to check mine. Ill let every one know how it goes. Because i have replaced many front end componentts with no change. The road doesnt matter even on freshly paved ones. My tans is a fresh rebuild, not to say i wont look at it but i keep thinking wheels/tires too. But ry rims are freshly refinished and the tires are still like new. But new only means shiny and i dont know the lifee they led before me. Thanks everyone.
