Default Ouch!!! New sending unit.

My fuel pump went south, that's why it died on the expressway. I knew I should have changed it sooner!! Only problem is it took the sending unit with it. Ouch, the sending unit was a special order and ran over 600 dollars!!!!! Ouch...... :cry :cry :cry

When you said it "took" out the sender unit. Did you mean that it actually made it go bad? Or is it because the dealer replaced it as an assembly? Most of the new cars and trucks now has what is refered to as a modular sender/pump assembly. That is the only way the GM services the parts now. However you can as a DIY'er replace the pump with a Walbro replacement. On a C4 car its very easy, one don't even have to remove or drain the tank to get to the assembly.

Just remove the fuel door and then disconnect the fuel lines from the sending unit and the 4 way connector. Remove the 10mm bolts from the sending unit flange and lift the assembly out. It takes about 10 minutes to do this. $600 sound a bit high, what was the invoice break down? The last time I checked that sender/pump assembly was around $350 or so, and about $225 dealer cost or slightly less.

Ouch,

What is the sending unit? (never mind, I know what it is now) I purchased a Racetronics unit with new wiring and relay for under $200.

The sending unit is the device that has the float attached to it that swings. Sort of like your toilet bowl float.

AC Delco still shows a separate # for the pump EP241 and another # for the sender 25091444 and their site has images for both. The Last Detail http://www.tld-corvette.com lists an '85 pump at $71. I beginning to find that when I go to a Dealer for parts, I have a better shot at getting the right one if I take the part# with me. Thought it was just a local thing.
